I should start by letting you know I hate going to the dentist. I don’t like lying down and not being able to swallow. I would be happier being sat up for treatment.
I have had a failed root canal and ongoing pain (on and off) over the last 4 years. I have fallen out of love with my teeth. I floss, brush, eat well, drink water and still have lots of issues.
I have recently had an emergency extraction on one of my molar teeth which is still recovering (was traumatic and will take 6 months). When this was removed I was told the tooth next to it will need a filling.
I had this done last week and was in a lot of pain and it was infected. I have been given 2 options, either root canal or extraction. I just can’t get my head around another set of treatment (especially the rubber dam which I have never seen before). I know I will find this traumatic as I struggle with the clamp used for a regular filling. There would be 2 root canal sessions and 2 crown sessions, all to keep a tooth which I hate and to have a root canal which may fail in the future.
I have opted for a sedated extraction due to the complex nature but I feel bad because everyone is saying it’s best to keep your tooth.
I would consider an implant to replace it but I’m not sure how traumatic that would be either.
I feel that I’ve made the best decision for me but just wanted some reassurance please x
