I have worn plastic partial upper dentures for about 8 years. They have been changed once 3 years ago. Last week after an ill fitted crown fell out and could not be replaced, I opted for new more expensive metal partial dentures, as I now have 2 missing front teeth. All felt good after fitting 5 days ago but I have now development very bad ulcer on side of upper gum, this makes it extremly painfull, to put them in and take out and after a few hours to wear them. Should I leave them out until ulcer heals? Continue to wear them? Make an immediate appintment , to see my dentist. I am using mouthwash, ulcer treatment gel and anything else I can find that helps. Any advice will be helpful.

Make an appointment to get the denture adjusted.

Thank you I have an appointment for later today and will let u know of the outcome.

Probably a very stupid question, but will my new metal partial upper dentures set off alarms, in airports, when travelling. I would hate [smiley=scared.gif]to have to open my mouth and take them out, if I can get them out that is.

update on new metal dentures

thank u for your advice. I have just come back from my dentist, he has shaved a small amount from the denture, inside the curve and from the top. Told me I should have returned immediately before the sore had got so raw. All good at the moment but will wait for localised pain killer to wear off. I have been told to return again until it is a good fit. It was very gentle and completly painfree experiance.
Could I ask again if these metal dentures will set of airport alarms? I think I would rather put them in my bag then have the embarrasement of explaining, espiecially in a foreign country.:D

No they won't set off alarms, they're made of Cobalt Chromium alloy which is non-magnetic and won't be picked up at the airport.

I am so relieved about the fact that my dentures will not set off alarms, so thank you for alievating my concerns. I ate with my new dentures in for the first time comfortably last night. Took them out painlessly. Sore spot still there this morning and was very frightened of putting them back in. Took pain killer, rubbed gel on gums and went for it. So far, so good. Slightly painful but hopefully they will settle down now. Although the dentist and technicians were kind and gentle, I would prefer not to return. Yesterday was the longest day, waiting to go to my appointment which was not until 3pm, I was shaking by the time I got there, I have a low pain threshold and would hate to show myself up anywhere in public. So thanks again for your help and advice.
