Scared and Embarrassed

I've been having issues with my teeth afteryears of neglect. I finally worked up the courage to go to thedentist. I found out I have an infection and need the tooth extracted ormaybe a root canal. They gave me an antibiotic for the time being. I'm so embarrassed if I lose a tooth I had a panic attack and left work. It's on the side and likely no one would notice. But, it's either thenget an implant or save it with a root canal. Both are large sums ofmoney. I just hate myself for caring more about booze and then 3 yearssober living in fear of the dentist. I'm still scared to go to the rootcanal specialist on Wednesday. This is all I can think about. Ifeel like an embarrassment to my wife and kids. I had to get this out andthank you letting me post.

I feel like I'm in a similar spot right now. I spent years in fear not going to the dentist and I continue to pay the price for this. I have an infection in a tooth that's had a root canal and have to have it redone on Friday. You can get through this!

I'm just praying that they can do the root canal on an infected tooth. It is a little loose because of the infection. So worried.

I'll just say, even if you do lose the tooth, please don't be ashamed. Life is cruel sometimes, and these things happen. So many people will have a tooth here and there removed over the course of their lifetime, it's not uncommon at all. Some people are meticulous with oral care their whole lives, and always go for their check-ups, and still have problems! Other people don't brush every day, hardly ever go to the dentist, and not even one cavity.

3 years sober is a really great and impressive thing. Don't discount your achievements just because of a tooth!

Not to make you feel bad I go for for appointments every three months for checkups, I still get very scared and embarassed about how my teeth look, also in the past had a few fillings and root canal done Fully agree with Sevena
