Sedation for 7 cavities?

I've been having some pain in a couple of my molars which prompted me to finally go back to the dentist. Long story short, I have 7 cavities. 6 need fillings (many are big) but 1 needs a ROOT CANAL. I'm terrified of both but especially a root canal since the tooth will need a CAP too!!! I'm so scared to go get any of this done because I've never had a single cavity before. I got a 2nd opinion this week and they want to root canal 2 teeth instead of 1 Can I ask my dentist to just knock me out to get the work done?? I don't know how else I'll get through it.

I'm confused, you're asking about sedation but then say you want to be knocked out, which would imply a general anaesthetic.

You can certainly ask for sedation, if you want general anaesthetic then that's a whole different ball game.

I realise that, especially in the US, root canal treatment is regarded as more painful than childbirth and scarier than waking up next to Count Dracula but it's actually not that bad at all. Having had several myself. It's more boring than anything else.

A CAP takes a wee while to do, but again, it's really not that bad.

Do a bit of reading on here about people's actual experiences and see for yourself

Hello , not a dentist here but just wanted to encourage you. If you feel you need sedation , there are definitely Alot of places in US that really specialize in that and Alot that feel that sedation is THE answer to dental anxiety, though it is one answer not always fits for everyone. But certainly if that is what you feel a peace with definately worth exploring . Also I agree with Gordon on the root canal being boring. I almost fell asleep on my last one a few years ago and recent reviews in my area all said they fell asleep. If you do end up needing /doing one, just let them know your fears and you will see if you feel a peace with them. Really wishing the best for you!!
