To be sedated vs no sedation

Sedation vs no sedation for wisdom teeth removal. I had an appointment at a sedation clinic today and the dentist told me he doesn’t think it’s necessary for me to be sedated because A) they look like they’ll be easy to remove, easy roots, and B) I’ve shown I’m able to sit and have treatment (just finished a long 4 appointment root canal). He said if I can sit through that, I can sit through a removal without sedation.

He’s leaving me with the option, put me on a 6 month wait list for sedation to have all 3 out, or said I can call and have them out in as little as 3 weeks without sedation and if I choose this I can pick and choose to have them out one at a time, or just one side or all in one appointment.
Stuck on what to choose, I’m terrified in general about having them out but they need to go, and like he said, everybody feels that because nobody wants to have extractions.

Hi @Nervousperson, I'm sorry you haven't had any replies yet, it's a really difficult one to answer as everyone is so unique!

Some people find that they can handle some dental treatments without sedation, but really want it for others. If a removal is way up your fear hierarchy compared to root canal treatment and you feel you just can't handle it, even if it is as easy as the dentist suggests - then sure, go for the sedation! It's just a matter of weighing up what is more important to you - not having much (if any) memory of the event afterwards, or getting it out of the way and getting on with your life. If the thought of having them out under sedation brings you comfort, and you're prepared to wait for 6 months, then that's not the "wrong" choice - regardless of whether you're able to have other complex treatments without sedation.

Good on you for getting through those root canal appointments! I'm not one to talk as I was sedated for mine but I wonder if waiting weeks vs months would make it easier to just get it over with without sedation? i. Less time to worry and build it up in your head?

I would think maybe if dentist prescribed a Lorazepam and laughing gas you probably could handle it since they’re not impacted and easy extraction. If money is an issue then Yeah IV sedation is costly.
Take you some headphones and high nitrous gas. I would do one side at a time to ease swelling or bruising. Let us know how it goes.
