so I have been having pain in my right lower 7 for some months. The hygienist thought maybe it iwas a micro # but I don't think the dentist is convinced. Im getting pain when biting hard foods and sensitivity to hot, cold and sweet. When I booked the appointment it was very painful but when I saw the dentist the pain had eased a lot (typical!!) He suggested a minor filling which in his words may not need an injection. I want to cancel the appointment as Im just too scared to go (tomorrow) and the pain has eased but should I go? The ridge of the tooth is quite deep ... Will he still want to do it if the pain has eased? can my tooth be damaged by the filling? will it get worse if left and need more treatment? Im 42 and have never had anything done in the dentist hence why Im is scared! What are the chances of him giving me an injection? that is why I am most scared of (I have had tattoos, piercings, steroid injections and facial fillers which are painful but I can tolerate) HELP! :(

Hello hcfu24, :welcome: to DFC, How are you feeling about going to the dentist today? You are very courageous taking this step, even setting up the appointment.Just want to encourage you, you have the power in every step! You can stop if anything makes you uncomfortable so encourage you to go if you can and know you can tell them you are uncomfortable with any step along the way. I used to use the bathroom as an out if I felt overwhelmed. And now adays the injections are pretty pain free :) especially if you let them know you are nervous about it they would take extra time and care whatever happens. Let us know what you decide and how you get along :)

Thank you for your kind ans sympathetic response :) I work in healthcare so I am very familiar with the bathroom tactic! I'm feeling ok at the mo ... But I know the nerves are going to increase dramatically as the morning goes on!

Hi. I would recommend going today, but not necessarily getting treated. This may sound harsh and difficult to do, but it is worth it. Not going to the dentist because of the stress would be an avoidance behavior and avoidance is the most important and difficult issue when it comes to (any type of) anxiety.
Since your tooth is not painful so there is no rush for treatment and it sounds to me the dental service providers are not sure what the reason for the pain was, so ask for no intervention, just to recheck and re-evaluate the situation, and in my view more importants don’t let the anxiety to determine to you whether you should go or not to the dental clinic.

This is such a helpful response!! I was just thinking maybe I should just go and chat to him again at the risk of wasting his time!) thank you!!

@hcfu24 Hi. I just wanted to let you know that I had an injection at the dentists last Thursday because I was having a tooth extraction and it didn't hurt at all. I was terrified before I went there to have the extraction but it went really well. It wasn't uncomfortable. I just felt a lot of pressure when the dentist took my tooth out. It went really quickly too. I'm 41 years old and I hadn't had a tooth taken out since I was in my 20's. I think you will be fine and it would be good to hear how your appointment goes.

THANK YOU SO MUCH EVER!YONE !! So I went ... Got upset as I was so scared (shaking like a leaf!) and as expected my dentist Shaun was kind and patient... I did have the filling bit no injection as it was minor .. just a little drilling ... I was in and out quicker than a check up!!! Panic over!!!

@hcfu24 I'm so glad your appointment went well. Well done.

YES!! So glad it went well!! :jump: :jump::welldone::cheer2:
