Hello everyone!! My name is Leslie, I m 29 yrs old, originally from Latin America but I live in the US
For some comments I saw I m not sure if this forum is based in the US or the UK.. ( some terms and expressions I read sounded British but I might be wrong..lol sorry if that s the case!
Anyways, I m soooo happy to find such a helpful site not only with only with useful info and tips but also plenty of success stories!! that s what I was needing to hear...
I m having oral surgery tomorrow morning ( he s gonna extract my 3 wisdom teeth, one of them will never come out thanks god! but the other 3 are here and even tough my main dentist told me one of them def should come out, the oral surgeon suggested it would be better to get rid of them all so I don t have to worry about and come back for another procedure later...
In my opinion dental care here in the US seems to be a big business but at the same time, considering my BIG anxiety problem, I prefer to go through this only once and not having to go in 3 separate times, that would be way more frustrating for me in the end...
I m going away to Orlando, FL in 12 days from now ( 11 after surgery) and I really hope to be recovered by then..
I know I won t be completely healed but I hope to not have pain or have to rock around the " chipmunk look" in FL...lol that would suck!!
I m gonna keep on reading some more " wisdom teeth removal success stories " now and I hope I can be making a post there very soon!!
I ll be having a bit of laugh gas to help me relax and hopefully get rid of some of my fear and anxiety, also an IV with some anti anxiety meds and not sure what else, oh and local anesthesia too....
I want to believe I ll be almost out of it, I have a playlist ready too to listen on my phone while he s working on me.
I heard that when u get the IV sedation, even tough it s not general anesthesia you forget about almost the whole thing...is that true?? I hope so!! I don t wanna have many memories about the guy pulling my teeth Ewwww
He told me he s gonna put stitches so I gotta go a week from tomorrow to have that removed, want to believe it ll be a piece of cake compared to the surgery itself...

Sorry for such a long post, I needed to vent and express myself and hopefully receive some cheerful comments to give me some hope and strength for tomorrow morning.

Hi Leslie! Just a quick reply to say that both times I had IV sedation I didn't remember a thing about any treatment after the IV injection. You wouldn't believe that could happen, but it did; it's amazing stuff. All the best for today and enjoy yourself in Orlando!

Welcome to DFC! The site started out as primarily for UK (I think) but now it's pretty 50/50 with UK and USA.
I had 4 wisdom teeth out under IV sedation a few years ago and I was completely passed out for the procedure. I have a few memories of being under sedation but I just remember being really calm and relaxed and hearing the radio (not my natural 'freaked out' state in the dentist chair! ). Speaking from experience, you should be just fine! I never felt anything during the procedure in fact, my mouth was so numb that I did not even know if my mouth was open or closed when I came around from the sedation. Definitely keep up on the pain meds though because it is hard to get control of the pain once it starts..it is easier to stay out of pain in the first place. Not sure what you plan to do in Orlando but if you plan on riding coasters at theme parks you may want to double check that is okay with your oral surgeon. I don't think you will be at risk for dry socket by then and a lot off the swelling should be gone but I remember being sore for a couple of weeks.

Don't worry about having the stitches removed. It is easy and painless. My stitches were the dissolving kind but not all of them dissolved so they removed about half of them at my follow up appointment and it was no big deal. They just snip the knots and the stitches slide out easily and painlessly. You won't feel anything and it only takes a few seconds. I hope this has help to put you at ease and best of luck for tomorrow.

Hi Leslie... I put my experience under success stories. I'm 45 and had my bottom wisdom teeth out which were partial bony impactions. They had to remove bone to get them out. From what my oral surgeon told me it wasn't easy. Anyway, I had iv sedation and I was really shocked at how easy the actual procedure was. When they gave me the meds I felt really good... lol. I got really sleepy and felt like I had just nodded off for about 15 min and woke up. When I woke up he was still doing something. I could hear something like a drill but I couldn't feel anything. It didn't bother me at all. It is easy to wake up from also. Very different from general like you would have in the hospital. I have had both. I woke up easy and was pretty lucid. I didn't feel real out of it or loopy or anything like. I'm pretty sure you won't remember anything at all about the actual procedure but everyone is different. Hope everything goes well for you and you have an easy recovery. Just for the record I was terrified before.

Hello everyone!!!!!!!!
Guess what?? I did itttttttttttt, lol, got all my 3 wisdom teeth out yesterday morning
I m gonna make another post pretty soon, I m waiting to recover completely cause I don t wanna post a " sucess story" and then post again saying I got a dry socket or something...he he
I gotta say, so far so good! I was conscious the whole time during surgery but whatever they put on the IV made me feel like if i was flying ha ha so relaxeddddd it was the best part I should say.
Worst part for me so far ( I m on day 2 now) was coming home with my moth all full of gauze and the blood and the saliva was nasty...
I wasn t bleeding much when I got home, changed my gauze once and then I had the idea of calling my mom to let her know I was fine and the bleeding started again and real bad, I was freaking out, I mean I m not used to see so much blood on my mouth...
Thanksfully after changing the gauze one more time and being QUIET the bleeding stopped soon and I was fine.
I had all liquids yesterday and I had some apple sauce today and some pasta ( which I had to cut in smaller pieces cause it felt weird otherwise)

I put ice on my cheeks yesterday and the swelling is gone I would say on an 80 % I could picture myself looking like a chipmunk for a week before I had the surgery but that wasn t the case.
I m doing the salt water rinses like my dr told me, after every meal or after I drink anything but I still haven t had the guts to look inside my mouth... the idea of seeing stitches in my mouth and the wounds freak me out... I think i m gonna wait a couple more days to do that unless I start feeling some strong pain or something then I ll check.

I ve been very lucky when it comes to pain I guess, I ve taken 2 of the painkillers pills they prescribed me cause I have almost no pain at all ( I hope it continues that way).

Just like most people on this site I m scared to get a dry socket, I ve heard that if u don t get it by the 3rd day u should be fine... so I ll keep my fingers crossed til then I guess..lol

About my trip to Orlando, well I HATE rollercoasters and crazy rides, yeah I m a chicken for that, last time I went to a water park with my nephew and niece they went on some rides which I didn t, they went with my sis and my bro in law and auntie Leslie was hanging out at the park...lol no crazy water slides for me!!

So I suppose I ll be fine, what it s gonna suck is I heard that u should wait a few weeks til u eat crunchy or spicy foods... and I really like those.. but I guess I ll have to be careful with anything I eat while I m there, I want to believe I ll be alright!

This was supposed to be a quick short post to thank u for your responses and comments and I ended up writing a " Bible" lol
Well anyways thanks again so much and I hope I can do my " success story" post probably on Fri when I get my stitches out

PS: I cannot wait til I can eat real food againnnn lol and sleep without any pillows on my back...
About that, for how many more nights should i sleep with the pillows behind my back? I did that last night but I don t think I wanna do that for much longer, I wanna sleep like a normal person again, any tips will be appreciated.

Quick update:
So far so good, tomorrow will be my last taking the antibiotics and I haven t need any painkillers since like Sat...
Bad part was the super bowl dinner last night... mine was some pasta ( which was good), apple sauce with pb ( felt like baby food totally) and my dessert was red velvet cake ice cream mmm that was good!!
But I wish I could have had pizza and wings and boozeeee...lol well hopefully sometime soon!
Oh and I call the dentist today asking if it was ok to use mouth wash, he said I should wait a bit cause it s gonna burn... ouchh so I guess I ll wait! but he said I can def brush my teeth ( avoiding the wisdom teeth areas of course) good thing cause I was going NUTS doing the salt water thing only, I cannot stand having a dirty mouth, I just can t take it so now I m brushing my teeth and that helps me feeling better as well.
I hope I keep on recovering well like I ve been doing it so far

Oh btw, did u read the post I made earlier today about penicillin and redish/ sensitive gums?? any idea if penicillin can cause that??
I heard a few people sayin that but I wonder if it s cause of the penicillin or because I tend to have swollen/ sensitive gums and I didn t brushed my teeth for the first 2 days and that s what causing it...
I have one more pill to take, I m very glad cause I want my gums to go back to normal! I was doing much better with that before the surgery...

I did read your post about the penicillin but I am allergic to it so I didn't know the answer. I was given some unknown to me in the guise of antibiotic and my symptoms were a lot worse than yours.

I think your gums were probably sore and swollen because you couldn't brush them, when you go back ask your dentist and let us know what it was.

I hope you are feeling a lot better now.

Hey!! Yes I ll ask him and let u know...
I think it s a mix of things... 1) those 2/3 days that I was too scared to brush n hurt my wounds
2) the fact that my diet has been lacking nutrients for almost a week now, I heard bad nutrition affects your gums and mouth in general
3) I also read that since penicillin is an antibiotic it can kill all kinds of bacteria and flora and including the good ones we need in our organism so ... I order some perio probiotics on amazon which have amazing reviews and it should help me get my gums back in shape.

So I think it was a combination of things, it says the penicillin takes a few days to leave your body so I guess I m still having the effects...

I m looking forward to go back to my healthy balanced diet, be able to brush and floss my WHOLE mouth and hopefully get my gums healthy again.

Oh I also started taking something called " L Lysine" it s an amino acid and it s supposed very good for the health in general, including gums, mouth sores and all that so we ll see, I want to believe between all that and the deep cleaning treatment I ll be starting on my way back from Orlando ( yeah no fun) that s gonna help me have a healthy mouth again.

Well I don't think you can do much more. It just takes time to feel normal again, your mouth has to get used to the changes as well. In a few more days you will feel very different and more normal. From what I understand and was told the penicillin stays in your body and continues working for about 5 to 7 days after we stop taking it.

If you are really worried about anything get in touch with your dentist, I think you will be okay though. That is only my opinion I have no medical knowledge.
