tarter on teeth

I was wondering what color is tarter on the teeth? Can it be black in color at the gumline? Does it have different shades of color?

It's spelled "tartar", proper name is "calculus". Might help if you're googling on it.

Above the gum line it's usually sort of creamy coloured, below the gum line it can be darker, colour varies quite a lot.
