I’m having all 4 wisdom teeth removed with iv sedation on Monday. I am absolutely terrified of the gauze.
Some info: I have severe ptsd from csa, and a significant anxiety disorder. Along with that I have a major gag reflex.
To the point where my daily brushing consists of dry heaving and occasionally throwing up even using a small toothbrush head.
Even sedated for cleanings I panic and end up throwing up.
I didn’t have any dental work for 14 years due to my anxiety, especially with dental work.
I even bought the same gauze and have been trying to practice how it feels having it in my mouth. I literally can’t last long than 1 sec without me gagging and having to throw them up out of my mouth.
I am terrified once the iv sedation wears off I will be immediately throwing up and unable to keep anything in my mouth.
I’m worried about bleeding to death if I can’t even keep the gauze in my mouth.
I’ve tried all the tips like using non-woven gauze, wetting it and even folding it real small and towards my cheek instead of my tongue side, I can’t do it.!!
I’ve also never gone to a dental appointment not sedated, usually take a decently amount of Ativan prescribed by my psychiatrist the morning of. So the fact I can take any bc of the iv sedation is also terrifying.
