Hello,

I had a crown placed on a live upper molar tooth in June of this year. In early September I had a coupe of days where I had intense throbbing in my jaw (upper and lower) and where they meet. I had gone into the dentist first thing the following day and they did an xray. They said everything looked fine and I maybe ate something or bit down too hard.

Fast forward to today. I have randomly had the pain come and go since early September. I have really bad tension in my upper back and shoulder so I had thought that maybe it was referred pain in my jaw. When I would apply pressure to my tension in my shoulder it would help lessen my jaw pain.

Last night I was up most of the night practically sitting up to try and find some relief. I looked at my back upper molar crown and the gumline in front of it is red and I can see blood (it’s not actively bleeding a lot or anything). The back of my crown the gumline looks normal (a pale pink) my injection site where they did the local Anesthetic back in June right in my cheek by my crown has some pain and looks a little inflamed as well.

I’m really worried that I have an infection brewing under the crown. I have an email out to my dentist for an emergency visit tomorrow. Does this sound like it could be an infection or could I have food or something trapped up in my gum?

I can feel sometimes when I’m chewing and eating that the crown still makes extra contact with the tooth below it. Could my bite being off cause this much pain?

Sorry, it needs looking at by a dentist, no way to diagnose this via internet I'm afraid.
