So, went back to the dentist the other day , as the discomfort from the deep filling I had on Jan 21st still had not settled. He'd previously tapped the tooth, and there was no pain, so he sent me home, saying the nerve should settle. It did not, the discomfort grew into pain and continued to wake me up at night, so I saw the dentist again.
This time I asked him to carry out a cold test, and yes...that hurt!
So, now I have been referred for a private root canal , but the appointment is 11 days away (the earliest one available).
There is no swelling or anything ...yet. But the pain is getting worse.
So, what else can be done to ease the pain than just taking ibuprofen and paracetamol? I also use salt rinses.
But I am shattered from not sleeping well, so is there anything else the dentist can prescribe in the meantime, or any treatment that he can carry out in the meantime , just to ease the pain temporarily until I see the specialist ?

If it's "through-the-roof" pain, as it often is with an acute abscess, then your dentist can prescribe antibiotics. If it's lower key achey pain, keep alternating painkillers. There's some more information here on which painkillers you can safely combine:

I hope the pain eases a bit over the next days! Best of luck for your appointment 🍀

Thank you so much for your reply. I ended up getting a pulpotomy yesterday (as the dentist said I had no abscess, and it was the dying nerve causing all the pain). I got numbed up, but the pain was quite intense still !😫

I feel rather sore and tender today, but so far, no swelling. Am having my root canal next week. Can't wait for all this to be over!
