Hello all

I am possibly going to have to have a tooth extracted when a crown fell off, there is very little tooth to fix to.

The tooth is in the upper far right and is the last tooth in the row and there is no pain.

I am Autistic and am sensitive to pain and i do not like human touch which makes visiting the Dentist difficult at the best of times.

I also tend to get very anxious and panic in these types of situations.

There is no way i could handle an extraction by just numbing the area, is there any other options for me in this situation?

Thanks in advance

Kevin

Sure there is, IV sedation sounds like it would suit, have a read at the article on here and see if it sounds like an option you would like?

Hello @Gordon

Thanks for the information, i have just finished reading it and yes it does sound suitable for me.

Would my Dentist provide this or would i need to be referred to a specialist?

The only concern i have is that it says to have an adult stay with you for the rest of the day, there is no one that would be able to stay with me, would i still be alright?

Thanks

Kevin

Don't know, ask your dentist? Some do some refer out their cases.

No, you absolutely need somebody to stay with you afterwards for your own safety, sorry. The IV affects your short term memory, so you could put a pot on the cooker, forget about it completely and doze off (some people get sleepy afterwards).
There must be some adult friend who could keep you company for a few hours?

Hello Gordon

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, I have no friends as I struggle to deal with people.

I will look into maybe getting a support worker to stay with me for awhile, if possible.

How long would I need someone to stay with me?

Thanks in advance

Kevin

Do you have any support from Adult social care or community support workers ? If you do, could you ask for them to stay with you afterwards?

Hello @MumOfBoys1985

Thanks for the reply.

I do have a Social Worker at the Local Council that I can speak to, maybe he could help.

Thanks

Kevin

You'd be looking for somebody to stay for about 8 hrs after the IV finished. You also need somebody to go to the clinic with you and escort you home afterwards. Social services are usually good at helping out in these circumstances, at least they were here in the Highlands.

I think that would be a good idea. He might be able to arrange for a carer or support worker to support you afterwards. I'm a social worker for adult care and we often provide such support for people with additional needs etc.
