Tooth extraction with majority filling

Hi! I'm seeking advice as I'm quite nervous about a tooth extraction. Basically I've had a heck of a lot of work done on this molar. Not only has there been huge fillings completed, but it has also had a root canal (not finished). My last dentist said that the decay has gone too far past the gum line and it will need to go, but he also said as it wasn't giving me any trouble, i could keep it until it did cause trouble. Well it is now a year and a half later and it is starting to give me a dull ache and feels a little "full". I have moved states now and do have a new dentist who has seen the tooth, but not assessed it as yet.

I just want advice really as I'm so nervous about the majority of the tooth above the gum line being all sorts of different filling materials. It's only really the smallest sliver of the back corner that is my original tooth. How on earth will the dentist extract this one without it breaking? I'm super nervous about them having to dissect and dig around as i have a family member with a severed nerve from a tooth pull. Can they slice the gum and extract it from the side if it does break?

Also what can a dentist do to prevent dry socket? I had a tooth pulled 2 years ago and got dry socket within 2 hours of the pull (before i had eaten or drank anything), the clot was attached to the gauze when i took the gauze out. When this tooth gets pulled it will be my 8th pull. It was only the last tooth i had pulled that got dry socket (out of all the extractions I've had), it was an abssessed tooth and i got given no antibiotics, this was also the only tooth I'd never gotten stitches for. I'm so scared I won't get stitches again as i feel like this was the differing factor in my last extraction. Do dentist generally give stitches?

Based on my experience, the healing process is easier if a tooth has to be sectioned when extracted. They will cut the crown in pieces, and take the roots out one by one.
Regarding dry socket, and speaking from experience, you can ask the oral surgeon to put a plug in the socket and suture it closed. This will help with healing, but unfortunately, there is no way to 100% prevent dry socket.

It really doesn't matter what state the crown part of the tooth is in, we don't extract teeth by hauling on the crown part
Dry sockets are a matter of chance really, you can cut the odds down by doing a few different things, but basically if they're going to happen, they will.
Since nobody knows really why they happen then there's no way to prevent it.
