Hi all…

At 66 years of age, I have bone loss in my upper jaw, leading to problems including loose teeth. I’ve procrastinated a bit on treatment and even secured a second opinion. In the end I’m sticking with my dentist because he knows me, my anxiety, etc. and his price tag is high but manageable.

In 10 days, I will have an indirect/vertical sinus lift, two extractions and bone graft, two implants placed all under local plus Valium. I’d opt for IV sedation but my dentist does not offer it. I’m terrified.

You might say, go to someone who can sedate you, but the opinion I secured suggested a much more invasive sinus lift, a much longer treatment timeline, not to mention a much higher price tag ($10k more than what I’ll pay my dentist).

This is largely a mind over matter issue for me and the ‘devil I know’ is the much better choice in my mind. I will also bring my headphones and some music. Any positive experiences or words of support you can offer will go a long way to ease my fears.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Thank you.

I have not had those procedures done but I did have 14 extractions with local and Valium only. To top it off I was terrified if the injections. Didn’t feel a thing. I really do t remember any if it. Good idea to take music. Another suggestion I have is to keep your eyes shut. If you don’t see what’s coming it may help. Please let us know how you do. If you have extra valium take it to the office with you. He did have me take an additional pill before he started.

@Ladydi1724 thank you! This is really helpful and hopeful. May I ask how long your appointment was? Mine is scheduled for 90 minutes.

My appointment only took 45 minutes.

Ok,thanks. I’m scheduled for 90 but hopefully will be quicker. I will say my dentist is fast 🤞🤞

When is your appt? Please let me know how everything goes. You got this!!
