Was adding Silver to my existing filling the best way to fix my molar?

When I was by a new Dentist a few days ago, he said the xrays looked good, but the pick caught a small hole at the edge of a 10 year silver filling I had in my bottom molar. He said since it was so small, he only had to drill a little bit of filling out. The next thing I knew, he was drilling my molar, why the assistant prepared a filling mix. A few minutes later, I walked out with everything the same except for a small light grey filling added to the front of my old silver filling. Was this the best way to fix this tooth? Will it last a while? See pictures of the tooth before and after the filling, and an xray of the filled molar.

I had a similar problem with a chip to the amalgam on a filling in one off my molars and my dentist did exactly the same by repairing the "chip" with amalgam, it's likely to be the quickest and safest way to deal with this kind of minor issue, mine was done last year and it's totally fine.

probably the best and safest thing that could have been done. I had a large very old amalgam filling with no decay underneath which lasted me 33 years until I went to my cleaning and the hygienist was able to dig her scrapy tool into it and a tiny flake came off. They made me feel like it was some urgent emergency and wanted 1300 bucks to crown it which I didn't have. Then they said it could be fixed and by fixed I thought they were just going to add a bit of filling like what you had done. Instead without telling me and without my permission they drilled out the entire thing and sunk a metal pin in my tooth to support a composite white filling. the pin they screwed in caused a vertical root fracture and then of course the nerve died and infection set in and cost me 3 months of agony before I eventually got it extracted because a root fracture can not be fixed by a root canal
