I'm almost done with my extensive dental treatment plan[smiley=jumping.gif]. After 7 extractions, and 10 composite fillings.. all I have left is a root canal with a crown. My original plan was to delve into Cosmetic Dentistryafter all the filliings were done. I have severe misalignment throughout my top anterior teeth(teeth 6-11):-X. I was considering Invisalign, but I was told that I was not a candidate by one dentist>:(. I really would like to get porcelain crowns, or a porcalin bridge. I have done extensive research online. I viewed several before and after cases that are far worse than my own. Those cases were been resolved with veneers, crowns, or bridges. If anyond on here has significant misalignment on the their top row teeth and opted for Cosmetic work, please let me know!! I really need some guidance on this issue.
I want a brand new smile desperately!!:D:D:D

I posted this entry 2 days ago, and yet no one has any response. I came on here to get advice and am in desperate need of feedback..yet no responses!!:-?:-?:-?

Congratulations on getting all of that work done! I would suggest posting this in the support discussion as you might get some responses there.

I haven't had any cosmetic surgery done personally, not sure how many have on here.

Thanks..This entry was initially posted in the Support forum, now it looks like someone moved it:-[ to this section. I don't know why, since I do need SUPPORT on this issue!

Ah, my mistake then. Not sure why it was moved but you could always PM a mod or admin?

Hi, I moved it because it wasn't getting any replies in the dental phobia support section, so I thought that maybe it's more of a dentistry question and you may get more answers here. Give it some more time - hopefully somebody with similar experiences will respond :). Are traditional orthodontics (with the see-through brackets) an option at all?

It is more of a dentistry question. Did you see an orthodontist rather than a dentist? dentists usually refer you to one. You should see an orthodontist to consider your options first before resorting to crowns and veneers. If your natural teeth are in good shape make doubly sure. Crowns and veneers are a big step from natural teeth and are not reversible. It may be that invisalign is not for you but conventional braces maybe possible. And yes I have experience of cosmetics on front teeth because of gaps.

if you do go ahead with cosmetic work then be aware that it may have to be redone every fifteen or so years and that they may have to take more tooth away because of misalignment. This could lead to root canals. You could also end up with a bite problem or pain in your bite that needs treatment and or wear a mouth guard at night and you can't bite in the same way with cosmetic work as you can with natural teeth (eg. you can't bite your nails or bite through thread etc). You can bite food more or less normally (but I'd avoid stuff like corn on the cob and spare ribs).

Those are pretty much the worst things.

oh forgot to mention you might not like them any more than you like your current teeth - it will be a big change suddenly.

Can you tell Annie's not a fan of 'unnecessary' cosmetic dentistry which destroys healthy tooth structure and neither am I ;)..in fact I don't think any posters on here are, so maybe you'd fare better on a general dentistry board.

I agree with Annie that you'd be best to investigate conventional orthodontics first..at least that can be permanent - loads of adults sport braces thesedays..I had them myself in my teens and highly recommend as a non-invasive form of cosmetic improvement.
