Hi,

I had a few back teeth taken out from the back of one side of my mouth a week ago. 1 wisdom tooth on the bottom and a tooth at the back from the top and bottom.

I have a load of stictches all over, but I think the soreness in my gums is ok as its slowly getting better. However, I'm getting ear ache that is there the whole time if I don't take painkillers. Also, the pain can go up to my temple and around my eye (on the same side of the extractions). Its mostly under my eye now.

If this normal? The wisdom tooth was very near to a nerve to I'm assuming they knocked me about a bit to get it out.

Also, if feels like they've taken 1/2 of one of the top teeth out. Its very straight and sharp on one side of it - feels smaller than it should be, can they remove 1/2 a molar tooth? I'm scarred of biting on it by accident, in case I break it.

Should I be worried about any of this? I'm not due back to see the surgeon for 5 weeks [smiley=scared.gif]

Thanks

First off, the pain in your ear/temple sounds more like it's related to your jaw joint than the teeth. Quite possible the stresses placed on the joint of having your teeth out have left it a bit sore. Try either ice packs or warm compresses, usually one or other works best, so experiment, try ice first though! Hold them just in front of your ear where you feel the joint move and see how that helps.

The sharp tooth on top needs somebody to take a quick look at just to put your mind at rest as much as anything else, so give your general dentist a phone and ask them to see you sooner.

Thanks Gordon. I think you're right, the more I move my jaw the more it hurts and it feels better with something warm on it. I just have to talk less I guess, probably not a good idea to stop eating.

I'll get an appt with my usual dentist to check the sharp one :o
