Hi all, just wanted to share my success story and hope it relieves someone's anxiety. I just had 4 front upper permanent crowns cut off because they were leaking. Even though I've previously had numerous root canals and crowns placed, I was terrified of this procedure. My dentist was awesome - he gave me valium and then used nitrous oxide. It was really a breeze. I did use my in-ear headphones the whole time and kept my eyes closed, concentrated on breathing in and out and ignoring any outside sounds. Although the procedure itself was easy-peasy, the next week was pretty hard for me. My upper and lower lip swelled horribly and I was so sore. I went back to the dentist and he gave me antibiotics for a bacterial infection; he was so gentle and understanding - it helped just to know things would get better eventually. I know, it sounds horrible, but it did get better and I'm now headed back tomorrow for the permanent crowns. What I thought would be a very traumatic experience turned into a not too bad one.
Best tip for swelling of upper and lower lips - gently swish with warm (not hot) salty water every 30 minutes. Works wonders!
