Today was my big day for 8 extractions - one broken off at the gum line. Last night, I took the Valium the dentist prescribed for the anxiety. I probably would have slept through night, had the hubby and son had not woke me up. This morning, 45 minutes before the dreaded appointment, I placed two halcion pills under my tongue. It is a 40 minute drive. I remember the drive there, and pulling into the parking lot. The next thing I can remember is having the remaining two halcion pills crushed up and placed under my tongue; then some pink gel swabbed on my gums. Shortly after, they used a pediatric device that basically sprays a jet stream of more numbing agent that they use before the the Novocaine injections. I recall fumbling with my ipod; I recall hearing the dentist say he was going to push on a tooth. The next thing I remember is his assistance placing my new partial in mouth, and having me drink some Mountain dew which helps bring you out of the halcion sedation. Once I was more aware, I took one of the pain relievers I had been prescribed. I am taking them every three and half hours or so....as it is better to prevent discomfort...than to try to treat it once it starts to hurt. I have only one sore spot, which is right where I had an infection for the last month. Other than that: no pain, no swelling, no bruising. I can say this was absolutely THE BEST dental experience I have EVER had in my life. If I had met this dentist 20 years ago, I would not have been in the condition I have been in. I went this morning with a hideous smile, broken teeth, a broken partial. I came home with a brand new, beautiful smile, no pain. The oral sedation is so much cheaper than IV. Ive had IV sedation in the past ... and now I PREFER the oral sedation not because of the cost, but because of the rapid recovery!!! Amazing amazing stuff!!
