Hi,

I had my lower right wisdom tooth out on Wednesday (it had been completely broken for about 4 years, and was taken out as part of ongoing treatment I'm having.)

The tooth came out clean, and there was nothing left in the extraction site. I've only been eating soft food (getting sick of soup and mashed potatoes now) but there is this dull ache in my jaw and I still have swelling.

Looking in the hole, it looks like I still have the clot, although it is white. I don't think it is dry socket, but how long should the ache last?

Hi WELCOME to the forum :jump::jump::jump:

They say day three is the worst for the aching etc... If the pain gets worse and pain meds don't help then go and see your dentist and let them check. You are usually safe from dry socket 72 hours after extraction.

All the best to you :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::butterfly:

It's not pain as such, just an ache on that side of my jaw. The dentist did say the roots of my wisdom tooth were quite close to the nerve, so that could be why it's still aching?

The swelling is still there too, and so is the clot. I know it's not dry socket, and the risk of getting it now has passed. When can I start to eat solid food again?

The aching is normal it will get better. You could try a cold pack held against your cheek to help with the swelling, I don't know why some dentists don't tell their patients to do this as it can really ease the discomfort.

You can eat normally when you feel like it, just chew on the other side of your mouth and rinse after eating to keep the area clean.

The foods in the links are ideal to begin with but as soon as you feel comfortable and have the confidence then eat what you want. Obviously don't eat really hard things.

If you are still worried then do see your dentist as they are the best people to advise you after having a look. Things do sound normal to me. I am not a dentist but I have experienced various dental treatments so I am expressing my opinion based on the treatment I have had in the past. :)

Sorry you didn't get a reply to your thread veronika22.

I am hoping you both are feeling a bit better by now. If you are worried or are in pain that is getting worse then please contact your dentist and ask them for advice. I am only a patient and I am only expressing my own opinion.:butterfly:

Mine is still an ache, I'm not too worried. I keep looking in the socket and the clot is still there, even though it appears to be sinking into the hole a bit... Is this normal?

haha fraden ur exactly like me :D im in and out to the bathroom with the flash light checking the hole to see if the blood clot is still there :D in out every 30mins so i am glad im not alone lol. ya thats normal mines the same the hole seems smaller and clot is shrinking so must be normal but im haven alot off painfull smasms in my left jaw :( its very sore without pain killers so im worried about that to but its not dry socket becaise i have the clot
