Hi I had a upper molar extraction four days ago. It was packed with alvogyl as it wasn't bleeding much, it's still in there and the gum is closing around it , it tastes awful, is it supposed to drop out or will it be ok. ?

I had a tooth removed about 36 hours ago now. It was an upper molar. I’ve previously had a couple of molars extracted with no issues. However this time the dentist said I wasn’t bleeding much post extraction and decided to pack it with brown fibrous things - think she said it was called Alvey gel or something. Anyway currently minimal pain but some discomfort. But I’m really anxious about dry socket now - I guess I have it if there wasn’t bleeding but when will the large amounts of pain start? And will the gel thing need replacing? She didn’t prescribe any pain relief so I’m just taking...

@ridgley1975 sorry to jump on your thread , can I ask did you get any pain like dry socket as you didn’t bleed much? Had a similar situation but only 2 days ago and still worrying about dry socket.

Hi no pain, the dentist just put the packaging in to prevent dry socket as it wasn't bleeding much. I've had dry socket in the past
