I went to the dentist last week. I felt slightly anxious; nothing horrible at all. My blood pressure was so high he wouldn't touch my teeth. They thought they'd take it again before I left and it was even higher with a diastolic of well over 100. So I just paid a fortune for x-rays and left. I know it's "white coat syndrome" but how do I stop it from happening? I had seen him three times before and was ok. Plus, I had taken twenty mg of Valium ! It made no difference! I can't figure out why this happened and I know he'll take it again when I must go back! But first, I'll return to my old dentist I went to for years. What can I do to prevent this? Thanks, Anabanana

Hi [smiley=welcome.gif] to the forum.

You can't stop this from happening, a lot of people have white coat syndrome including myself. My doctor wanted to put me on medication for high blood pressure but I know it only goes up under stress. I got a monitor from the chemist and I keep a record of my blood pressure so they get a true picture of it.

All the best to you and good luck with any future treatment, I hope you can manage to get this sorted out. :butterfly:
