Hi there,
Just need to vent after an awful dentist experience. Yesterday I suffered with an incredibly painful and swollen jaw. Today, I decided it would be better to just deal with it and go for an emergency dental appointment. I did so and they were really awful. So first off, it's just a decor thing but the walkway had a swastika pattern at each corner, not exactly welcoming!
The dentist checked my teeth and audibly said oh my god and called me over to look at how bad and deeply rotten my teeth were. I felt so awful. She kept calling me a boy which as a 26 year old felt bad too! She said there may be a problem with the top teeth. Now I know there is, one is cracked and black and another is missing a chunk and grey and clearly has cavities. I really didn't look after my teeth, not brushing them for years (I know brush twice a day and use mouthwash beforehand). I said I think I do have an issue with these teeth and she might want to look at them? She said no and just gave me a referral for wisdom teeth removal and some antibiotics. She said it would cost thousands for a root canal, I didn't think that was the case at all. She even said she wouldn't charge me for the x-ray, but that was surely covered by the emergency appointment cost? Crazy really that we have to pay at all!
I'm not really sure what to do and feel so so ashamed of myself. I wouldn't have this problem if I had had the sense to brush my teeth. I wouldn't have this problem if I had dealt with it all earlier. My mum, thankfully, is supportive but doesn't know much about my lack of oral hygiene or the issues with my upper teeth. She suggests calling my usual dental practice, getting a normal appointment and going from there. I'm thinking about just contacting them and making it clear how bad my teeth are if I can via email if possible and see where we go from there. I don't want to have teeth removed, I don't want to have to pay thousands.
Oh and to top it off, I've got loads of stains on all my teeth which I'd assumed were from tea but now wonder if they could be cavities. I've been wanting to get that fixed so I won't be judged at interviews as I try and get my life back on track and to get a job and now who knows? There's so many stories here of people overcoming fear or having simple treatment and now idk, just worried I'll be left with no teeth and my relatives seeing what a mess I am.
