i’ve had 2 rounds of orthodontic treatment.

came in with a pretty big overbite + gummy smile, after 1st round i still felt that my teeth were very flared and my gummy smile wasn’t even put into consideration, so i went back to my ortho (i trusted him a lot) and told him im not happy with my results. flash forward to today, 2.5 years and 2 rounds of treatment later (had IPR on front teeth to avoid more extractions (already extracted a premolar) + gummy smile TADs), and i only now discovered just how badly i was screwed over.

i went to get a 2nd opinion since during the 2nd treatment course my ortho didn’t use lower braces and that let my lower right 2nd molar tilt heavily inwards and he said it can’t be fixed, found out from my new ortho that not only does it NEED to be fixed, but that my orthodontist left me with an edge to edge bite that i never had before, my overbite isn’t fully fixed because my old ortho let the back teeth shifted forward and “space loss” happened, and worst of all, i discovered i have severe root resorption in my 4 front teeth. my new orthodontist said the teeth are hopeless, that i need to have more treatment to push my upper teeth back (he’s going to use a device that pushes them back using TADs screwed into my palate), to be able to put in the implants in the correct space in the future.

to say i’m devastated, traumatised and furious would be an understatement. i don’t know how i will ever get past this. im only 22, im supposed to be celebrating after all this pain but instead im faced with this horrific nightmare.

nobody told me your roots can literally dissolve with braces, nobody explained to me that was a risk, nobody told me i’m supposed to take x rays every 6 months during treatment, nobody told me my teeth can literally fall out because my orthodontist neglected me, left my teeth in an unacceptable state, lied to my face that my molar doesn’t have to be tilted back to its original position and so much more. all this and he’s a certified, qualified and well known in the field.

i’ve seen the scans and i know my front teeth are probably hopeless, which is insane to say considering i never felt a thing. only some mild pain on biting hard things but i attributed that to the braces.

but where do i go from here? im terrified to trust a dental professional ever again and even more terrified to go through ortho again knowing it can cause even more teeth to be taken away from me. i don’t even want to think about the process of losing 4 teeth that were completely healthy and then going through the process of getting implants. nobody my age should have to think about this.

can anyone predict how long these teeth will last before they inevitably have to be replaced?

is there anything i can do to prolong their lifespan or do i just extract as soon as i finish 3rd round of ortho?

should i even do ortho again?? all my teeth have visibly shorter roots and im terrified of this incident happening to all of them, i dont wanna have my whole upper jaw implanted

if i do get implants replacing my 4 front teeth how long will they last and what will i do after that?

is there hope for me after all of this? im scared of bone loss and gum recession once they’re extracted/fall out

I’ve attached my pre treatment pano, current pano and CBCT.

No. I've seen worse so it could be decades depends if the resorption stops now or not.

No.
Wait and see, if the resorption stops then you won't need them out. What does your current orthodontist think?

I thought you were in the middle of treatment right now? Again this is something you should be discussing with the current orthodontist.

Implants should last forever if they're done well.

If you go for implants you won't get further bone loss. What do you mean by gum recession?
