Can an Endodontist redo root canal through crowns

So yesterday a dentist referrred me to an Endodontist for possible re root canal of my dodgy tooth that’s playing up (with 1 month old new crown) he said he’ll prob have to take crown off to do re root and I’ll have to get another crown! I just don’t know if I can face another crown fitting mentally or financially on top of a reroot cost! Has anyone had an Endodontist do a root canal through a crown?

Mine told me they just go through the crown, and put a filling back in it. That was the main reason my denstist wouldn't put the permanent crown on until we knew for sure if the tooth was going to need a root canal.

The normal dentist thinks he’ll want to take it off! I don’t now if I can go through the bite issues again with a new one ??? I think it’s gonna cost £700 for root canal then another few hundred for another crown with no guarantee it will fix it? (If it’s a crack that’s caused it!) I just don’t know what to do! ? I just want to cry at all the options as a gap terrifies me! And would want a bridge as would be scared of killing off the neighbouring teeth! I’m not feeling great today! These tooth issues are really stressing me out

I know exactly how you feel! I am facing the same thing, except my tooth is at the back, so it wouldn't be seen, but my other teeth would move because there is no way to put any spacers or even an implant in that location.

I really wish there was a definitive way to check for a crack in the tooth. It seems unfair to have to pay for expensive treatments that "may" work, then end up having to pay to get the tooth extracted.

If I were you, I would definitely ask about the possibility of drilling through the crown. If they don't want to, you could always just keep the temporary crown on until you know if the root canal is going to work. I have been wearing my temporary crown for 4 months now.

Yes if they take the perm crown off I’d def not put another back on till I thought it had worked!? I just think my mouth seems so sensitive to tiny changes I don’t ever know if it will go back pain free! At least before the crown the tooth wasn’t 100% but it didn’t really hurt! I just had the tingle up the face now and then with heat! And the weird sucking on it now and again! I just wish it was all a bit more definitive!!! ?

Both I and my endodontist regularly drill holes through crowns and perform endodontic treatment. Those holes are then restored. Often placing a post and core(filling). In general the only way to remove a crown is to cut it off. This destroys the crown

Would it be more difficult to do a re treatment through a crown though? My dentist seems to think the Endodontist will pull crown off and I’ll gave to get another one?

Not really.

Depends what the crown has been cemented on with, but most of the modern cements are so strong there's no way to get the crown off a tooth without cutting it off. It usually takes a lot longer to remove the crown than just to drill straight through it.
