So tomorrow (30/4) I am going to have the rest of the extractions done. Once that has been done I will have no back teeth whatsoever (what I have now is just broken bits). At the next visit (after tomorrow) Dentist will be starting on the fillings in my front teeth. That is all fine by me but I'm worried about when I will actually get something to replace the teeth that have been extracted.

At my very first visit he did mention dentures but he hasn't mentioned them since. I am on NHS and am Exempt from charges - surely Dentists cannot do extractions and then just not give you any dentures....can they?? Even for NHS Exempt patients???
:-?:-?
I know I sound stupid but I'm panicking about this - I know I can ask him tomorrow but it seems like to lonng to wait for his answer - help please, thank you.

I don't know about this, sorry, you won't be left for ever without dentures but I don't know when he will do some for you, I know for a single tooth I am waiting for 6 months to settle on the nhs, but for the amount you need I would have thought they wouldn't wait that long.

Has he taken any impressions yet?

GOOD LUCK for tomorrow by the way.

Hi Carole and thank you for replying.
no he hasn't taken any impressions yet. Tomorrow will be my 4th appointment. The first one was just the assesment, the second and third he has done extractions and tomorrow he will be finishing the extractions. The fact that he hasn't yet done any impressions is what is worrying me - I don't have anything to chew with and the state of my front teeth I wouldn't trust tem to chew with as they scare me silly.

Hope you get your own dentures soon.

HI it is just one little tooth I am needing, I have just tried to have a look for you on the nhs website but it wasn't much help as to how long, I would have thought it won't be long and it does seem as if the first set you get is just tempory, to find out how comfy they are going to be and they can adjust them, then when everything has settled down with the temp ones, it looks like you get perm ones. But until he has taken an impression I would think you can't have some.

Sorry this is probably not much help, but let us know how you get on tomorrow, and before he starts ask him how long, that way if you feel it is too long for you to wait, get him to take impressions first before having the teeth out. That way you can move at a pace that is best for you.

Remember he is working with you, not on you. You need to feel comfortable with what is being done.

All the best :grouphug:

Yeah I will ask him tomorrow before he starts the extractions. I only got brave enough to face my fear becuase I was getting so depressed over the state of my teeth anyway so being left without teeth will make me feel even worse. I already suffer with Panic/Anxiety and Very Low Self-Esteem plus weight issues (overweight). So I really would like my teeth sorted as soon as they can be so at the very least I will be able to smile and talk to people again.

Good for you, keep telling yourself this and keep going. You've done really well up to now. Once your mouth is done you can start on the other things that are bothering you, and no matter what your weight is or how low your self asteem is, you are a lovely person. How do I know? Because you want your teeth fixed so you can smile at other people, a not so nice person would want to frown. See nice person.

Good luck for tomorrow, I hope you get the answers you want. :grouphug:

Awww thank you that's very nice of you to say so [smiley=hugging.gif]

Well I asked him and he said to me "Don't worry I wont leave you toothless" which is a relief he just wanted to get all the extractions and fillings completed first, which is fair enough and on May 30th I go back for fillings (wish it was sooner but he is going away) then he will discuss replacements for the teeth I no longer have (quite a few actually I only have 15 left lol).

Hi Julie30 did you have the teeth out today? :hug5: I am glad that you managed to talk to him, it does seem like a long time until the end of May, you seem a little down about it, but it is better to have him do it, don't you think, than a stranger. He sounds as if he understands and is considerate towards you.

The end of May will be here before you know it, I am thinking you have had your teeth out so :cheer::cheer::cheer:

WELL DONE [smiley=jumping.gif][smiley=jumping.gif][smiley=jumping.gif] I hope you heal really quickly and painlessly [smiley=jumping.gif]

Hi Yeah he finished the last of the extractions today he did the whole of the left-side top and bottom (at the back). Yeah I would rather he does it I think I'm just a little down because I want teeth so badly lol but yeah the 30th will be here soon enough.

In fact I have no doubts May will hurry by as on the 17th I have the unpleasent trip to the Hospital to have my 6-Month Check for a Colposcopy after having PRE-Cancerous cells removed. Compared to that I would much rather go to the Dentist :)

OH I am glad you have had the rest of the teeth out, that's that bit over and done with. I wish you a speedy and painfree healing :welldone: don't worry about how long it is going to be without your new false teeth, you are way ahead of where you were a few weeks ago. You have done really well, you should be so proud of yourself, and think that within 6 months all this will be a distant memory and you will have by that time your new teeth. I know how you feel I feel a bit impatient for my one, but I just think I want everything right so I can wait and do it how they want.

REALLY WELL DONE [smiley=jumping.gif][smiley=jumping.gif][smiley=jumping.gif]

On the pre cancerous cells subject I can relate to that too, I am too tired at the moment but tomorrow I will pm you I hope your check is okay though.

Hi Julie

Glad to see the extractions went well, and will hope your hospital appointment goes well also.

I have had no back teeth since my teens and have only had 11 (crowned) teeth left. I did for a while have a partial back denture, and I must admit, did like the appearance it gave me when I smiled. So I hope that you get what you want and can have some peace of mind there.

Kim
