I haven’t been to the dentist in over 10 years and am petrified to go. Had an abscess with gut wrenching pain about 4 years ago and do you think that I went to the dentist for that? NOPE! I even went to the ER for this but they told me that the dentist didn't know what to do! So I walked out after not seeing anyone.

Now, I finally have an appointment in early December because of a sudden shift of my teeth. My top canine retracted up into my mouth and I am so scared it will get into my maxillary sinuses or could puncture my trigeminal nerve. WHAT IF IT FALLS OUT WHEN I’M BLOWING MY NOSE?? Due to my fear of seeing the dentist and overall lack of faith in them, I took matters into my own hands and did some research for myself… I have self-diagnosed myself with a maxillary cyst. I can’t live like this anymore. I have reached the breaking point. Even though I am so scared I have to go to the dentist- Gordon, would you think that it would be alright if I saw my mother-in-law, a dental hygienist, for this issue? But, of course, that would open up a whole new can of worms.

My nephews are also dentists. Now, you might be asking yourself, “Hey Tim Buck-Tooth, why don’t you have a conversation with them?” But YOU don’t understand! They have only grown my fear of the dentist as they always offer me free teeth whitenings. They are nice for offering but what a slap in the face… My teeth are plenty white!

As if this wasn’t enough, I don’t have time for the financial aspect of any of this!!!! I don’t trust my dental insurance because my second cousin, Paulina, recently had a root canal on #16 and they revealed to her that they had run out of money and could no longer cover the cost”

Any advice on my condition or encouragement for going back after all these years is appreciated.
What are some red flags I should look for in a dentist? Green flags? Beige flags?
