Constantly rubbing tongue against teeth

@Marigrrrl Hello! I haven’t found a true remedy, but I had my dentist make me a clear upper retainer (something like Invisalign but way cheaper) that does keep me from doing the OCD tongue thing on my top teeth at night. The day is a crap shoot and I just try to keep occupied.

@KittyRL that’s where I am too. Hate candy helps more than gum but I’m wearing my front teeth down from chewing on imaginary debris from my gums. It’s maddening!!!

I had my appointment with the specialist in the maxillofacial and orthodontic department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. He was very bemused by my symptoms, but was sorry to hear I'd been told I have a blocked saliva gland, as it isn't constricted.

He's concluded that the white lump at the front of my gum is where the gum tissue has thinned and it's bone which is visible. I have too many lower incisors, which is causing the problem. One of them is projecting upward, slowly exposing more of the tooth below the gumline.

His suggestion is a brace (at the age of 56!) to help the alignment of my teeth in the lower jaw, but it's expensive even on the NHS. In the interim, I'm due a deep clean with the hygienist and will be having a mouth guard made so that I don't keep prodding my teeth whilst sleeping. I also have a very deep bite & enlarged masseter muscles around my TMJ, so have been doing some relaxing massages to alleviate this.

I have had Crazy Tongue since I had a Crown replaced during this past Spring.
The new Crown was CNC machined from a Dental Machinable Ceramic. I believe my tongue discerns the difference between CNC Ceramic, and Porcelain, is confused and thinks the new Crown is a foreign object. It cannot keep from exploring this new crown, and has become raw and sore.
I tried Mental Control, but I'm not Mental enough.
I tried Chewing Gum and Hard Candies to distract my tongue, but this is no long term cure.
Dental Wax and a Tooth Cover proved useless.
Today I began with some thin plastic Disposable Tongue Covers from Amazon. They are not comfortable, but they keep my tongue very still while I wear them.
I believe they may be a useful tool in my kit, and used together with other methods, may finally allow my tongue to heal and remain calm.
