could anyone tell me what a bite is?????

hi,this is my first post on here...what a great site it is..
well im sooo afraid of the dentist,but i have been really brave over the last two weeks ive had 5 teeth out and 5 fillings...
my next appointment is a week today ,ive been told im having another filling and a bite??????could anyone tell me what a bite is please...i have got to have a denture at the top,was wondering if its got something to do with that??

A bite is a dental slang term for recording the way the upper and lower teeth fit together when you close your mouth. Proper name for it is a jaw registration.

if im having a bite done does that mean that im having dentures at the top and bottom,thing is i dont want dentures at the bottom as ive only a few teeth missing at the back???
think im going to have a to have a word with my dentist!!

It could just mean you are having a bite measurement taken to see how your teeth close together and if they are not quite correct possibly a brace or other straightening method might be needed. Please don't think that you're going to have to get all your teeth out. It sounds like you have good teeth that only need a filling here and there.

Your dentist should be able and willing to provide you with a treatment plan in writing, and you should definitely insist on this if you're having a lot of work done. It's important that you are informed about your treatment options and are able to make an informed decision .

You still have to record the jaw registration even if you're only making an upper denture, I presume you would like the denture to work with your bottom teeth while you're eating? (Sorry, that was meant to be amusing rather than sarcastic!)
