Crowns

Hi everyone. I'm 65 years old and have the worst dental phobia. Had a terrible dentist as a very small child that had to have crowns put on baby teeth and the dentist just not being very nice or gentle. So, now next week have to go have two crowns put on. One on a top molar and one almost directly underneath it. It seems like the anxiety leading up to the appointment is the WORST!! Any tips on how to deal with this??

Hello Angieszoo, to DFC ! You are in the right place and we are glad you are here. I'm so sorry you had that traumatic experience as a child. The anxiety really can seem and be overwhelming. How did you find this new dentist and how are they with you ? What are you most anxious about?

This dentist had just started with my old dentist, who then retired. He's very gentle and will give breaks when I need them, but it's the buildup to the appointment that gets me. It'll just pop into my head that oh no, I have to go to the dentist and then the anxiety sets in.

Soo get that feeling ! It is very real, and sometimes just overwhelming. I think once you build positive momentum and trust in each visit it gets better. maybe not totally disappears but come up less amount and less intensity. I know one thing I do , is come on here, and vent and also journal and write qny questions on a note card I can ask my dentist so I don't forget. Your dentist sounds lovely. @Dr. Daniel may have a good video in his library, that could be helpful for this too.
