I’ve had a chronic tooth infection for the last 3-5 years. I’ve read online that these chronic infections could lead to heart attacks and strokes, even in otherwise healthy people. Is this true? Any help would be really appreciated!

You're getting a bit confused between types of infections...

Chronic periodontal disease has been linked to systemic diseases, but there are no absolutely definitive studies, but it seems more likely than not.

Chronic periapical abscesses haven't. I'm not saying it's OK to leave them since they do cause local issues, but they aren't thought to cause the things you're worrying about.
