Hi,

On the 16th of July I had a tooth removed that had a chronic abcess. After two weeks the gum started to fill with infection again. Multiple cleanings etc by dentist, and eventually she prescribed amoxicillin last Friday. Finished these on Wednesday just gone. So all was well for two days, and then it started to discharge pus again via the socket.

Went back to the dentist yesterday, and she said it looks better than it did last Friday when she prescribed antibiotics. She said that it can take some time to clear itself when it's been chronically infected, and that the discharge is when it clears out the bad stuff during healing. She did not prescribe anymore antibiotics.

It's making me very nervous. At what point do I worry? I also had two more extractions on the 31st which seem to be healing well. I'm new here, so apologies if I posted in the wrong place.

Thanks

Zoe

Dentist says it's getting better, so try not to worry about it and just give it time to heal.

Thank you. I've had to overcome alot of severe anxiety and trying find the right dentist to be able to get the work done. And I'm glad that I have found a very lovely dental surgery now, the tricky healing is just playing on my mind. I'll try not to worry! Atleast I'm getting things sorted.

@Gordon why do you think the infection is still draining despite the tooth being removed? That's what's playing on my mind. I thought having the tooth out would stop all of this.

This is the pesky socket. Removal was July 16th.

The infection will be draining out from the surrounding tissues, it doesn't all come out with the tooth, just the source of the infection.
That socket is healing beautifully, you really have nothing at all to worry about there.

@Zozo1986 hi zozo. I have to go in this Tuesday to remove a molar with abscess thats been there for years because i was scared for the dentist. I am on antibiotics because the dentist said otherwise i will not get numb. Did yours hurt? Did you get antibiotics? I am scared to death. I have stopped eating. I feel like I will die on Tuesday

@Scarrs It didn't hurt at all when it was taken out. It was quite a stubborn tooth so took some wiggling, but totally barable. Try not to worry! Good that you're on antibiotics, it'll hopefully help you heal. You'll be fine!

@Zozo1986 thank you so much! I will try to relax. I have been poking the fistula a lot which hurts. Lets see everything goes fine on Tuesday. I am scared of pain. How long was your abscess in there?
