Hello all. Most of all you know me as I am the biggest chicken in the planet in regards to my wisdom tooth It has been 2 years and almost three months that they told me to get the upper right wisdom tooth pulled. Most of you know my story but I will share. I lost my dad in July and I was prepared to get it pulled 3x and each time I had it scheduled, my dad was taken to the hospital. Then he was so very frail his body could no longer handle the cancer and we lost him on July 3, 2013 :'(

Time is slowly healing my pain, but now the tooth is chipping away and I am scheduled to have it done December 3, 2013 exactly 5 months of my dad's passing. I am so afraid because this year has been SO bad. It is a fully erupted tooth with little or no nerves. I am in no pain and I just saw my dentist a week ago due to an inflammation of my gums thanks to popcorn. That healed and they did look at my tooth and it is just chipping away.

I have tried therapy, relaxation and have even tried anxiety drugs. All not working. I am ready to do this but I am not sure I am REALLY ready. I wake up daily obsessing about it and I know it needs to be done. I know all of you offered so much help but I just need some more reassurance so I can do this and put it in my backpack of success stories.

Thanks....chicken.....chicken.....:(:eek::cry:

Oh my biggest fear is afterwards for the pain and the numbing of my tooth. I hear that the uppers are not as bad as lower. Fear of dry socket etc. I cannot take most medications. I just had a EMG done where they put 17 needles in my nerve. My dentist laughed and said that the EMG is much worse then the tooth being pulled!

Hi it is nice to see you back, how are you apart from your tooth problems. I don't know what an EMG is but it doesn't sound like something I would like so good for you for sitting through it.

If you have any problems after extraction pain meds will deal with any pain you may have, you can ask your dentist to prescribe something you can take. Don't fear dry socket, chances are it won't happen but if it does it is easily sorted out by the dentist.

All the best to you :friends::friends::friends::hug5::butterfly:

Hello and thank you very much for your response. And EMG is where they stick needles into your nerves to find out if there's damage in the nerve. But dentist said that that was worse then what I'm having done. Aside from the tooth, so many things of been happening. Last week we had a very bad storm lost power for almost 17 hours and blew out our back window.

I miss my dad and we really could not bury him for almost 3 months. he was cremated and the original cemetery that accepted him for military denied him. So that's the other reason I held off on my tooth because we didn't know what day we are going to bury him and it was going to be a big family thing. Do you think doing this prior to the holidays is a dumb idea? Some people don't know me have said that. But I called the dentist they even said if I had it done this week for Thanksgiving I could probably be eating in a couple days. So I think I'm really making a lot out of this. Least I hope. How are you?

I am fine thank you. I remember you being here when you were upset about your dads illness and death. How is your mum doing?

I think that now you have Thanksgiving out of the way now might be the time to get that tooth seen to. You do have to do it when you feel ready, or as ready as you can feel. Go on be a devil and sort that troublesome tooth out for once and for all :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::butterfly:

My mom is just going through the motions and emotions. It is so hard right now and I am just doing the same thing. I dread the holidays. Personally, if someone gives me an injection and wakes me up next year January 1, 2014, I would be better off. I just do not want to do the holidays at all. I just want to cry. It is already brutally cold here in our state. Way way below normal. But If I wait until I am ready, the tooth will crack into a million pieces and even cause me an infection. I just want to be done with this too. My regular dentist just saw me a week ago because I ate popcorn and the husk got stuck in there and caused a major irritation. That was fun. But they said this should be easy and that is what I have to go on!:cry::cry: I really cannot wait until this year is over and I am so scared I am going to die. Irrational? Absolutely, but nothing is just that easy for me.:(

Just read your thread and wanted you to know someone (in the UK) has. I know feeling of both dental phobias and loosing a father. Stick with it best you can, try not to put it off. We don't have Thanksgiving over here, but just take each day as it comes and at your own pace.

I'm so sorry for everything you're going through. I'm praying for you and your family. I hope you are granted the strength and peace to get things sorted out.

Thanks everyone I'm going to do this...

Hello welcome back,
I don't think falling asleep and waking up after the holidays will change a great deal you will still be grieving and have a tooth needing treatment too :) I would say go get it done as scheduled because it won't be as bad as you think each step of the removal process will be done slowly, methodically and gently, it sounds quite straight forward, from what you have said and you can face 2014 knowing this is out of the way and close that chapter of 2013.
i wish you well and we are behind you all the way :clover: Go show them what you've got, you're stronger than you think!

I spoke to the dentist today about my fears. The first was if I could have t3 in liquid as my pharmacy said it will take a few days. The nurse doubted I would need that as that Motrin 600 would suffice. That eased my mind. Also, the he's doing injection for the upper to numb. Worried about gun and she said that is only on bottom. Also, that usually uppers rarely get dry sockets because that jaw does not flap and causing an irritant. Not impossible but if I follow all the directions, I should be fine. God I hope so. :cry:. I just can't wait to get it done. Like all you have done it.....the Ativan seems to calm me down so she recommended that for rest of week, don't think about it and take it daily if it cause me to become anxious if I do think about it. I am ready to do this....I hope I have a success story to post.....thanks and I really meant, thanks so much. I cry almost every day for my dad.:cry:
