My new dentist is aware of my phobia of taking antibiotics because of reasons I've had to some in the past and some got stuck in my throat, so I cannot take them whole. Also, I am allergic to all families of penicillin, so i can only take one other antibiotic, that I know of, which is clindamycin. I'm not sure if that's why he told me I didn't need to take antibiotics to extract #12, the last molar on the upper left side of my face. The infection or abscess has been there for about 5 yrs. and I have been nursing it with ibuprofen when it gets inflamed, for fear of a root canal and taking the meds. I had gotten that tooth filled a long long time ago, and now the infection lies underneath it! I have horror stories galore of dentists lol, I'm sure that doesn't help anything. I know it may hurt worse when he removes it if I haven't done the antibiotics, but he said he has a very potent local with cloves that he uses, so it shouldn't hurt. I'm more worried about the poison spreading to other parts of my jaw or through my blood stream. I've read others posts about successful extractions without the meds, but i'm still not positive. I am set up for next Thursday 4/25/13. Please help! And some encouragement wouldn't be dismissed either haha, thank you so much in advance!
