Hello all, just got back from the dentist and he highly recommend that i get bottom full dentures as ny lowers are not saveable. Now first of all im 28 years old, male and i currently have full uppers. As far as the uppers go i love them. Got them maybe 2 years ago. I know im very young for dentures but to be honest regretfully so i havnt really taken care of my teeth up until the point where it was already too late due to smoking and a majoe depression iv been suffering with for many years. Anyway i love my uppers i can finally eat 99% comfortably. Noone except my family knows i have them but im still extremely insecure about them as i havent dated or honestly even kissed a girl since iv had them :/. Well nows the time for lower and im absolutely freaking out. I cant begin to explain the emotions going thru my head. My mother has lowers and says tgere extremely uncomfortable. I have i have about 11 or 12 teeth now and doctor says they all need to pulled and dentures put in. I dont have money for implants or anything like that. Can anyone shed some light on this. Is my social life screwed more then it is, how uncomfortable are tge dentures really, is it even worth it? I recently finally got into my career and now this bomb drops on me, i cant really take time off of work because of this. I have so many concerns about this that i cant even think straight. The only thing i can say is put yourselfs in my shoes being so young with full upper lower dentures and all the problems that come with it. Please someone shed light on this subject as i dont really have the support at home dispite my mother having dentures, she just thows everything in my face:/

Hmm, lowers are rather harder to get used to than uppers, but they shouldn't be uncomfortable. I wouldn't listen to what your mother says, because everyone is very different.

Lowers don't get the same suction as uppers, which makes them more prone to movement. However, people learn to control them with their tongue and mouth muscles (and adhesive can help), and they generally are just as usable. It does take longer though! Perseverance is key. Some people give up, and that's why they get a bad reputation. But you can get used to them! Make sure to visit the dentist regularly for adjustments - lower gums shrink faster than upper gums, so it can take more tweaks and relines to get that perfect fit. If you make sure to visit the dentist when you're having problems, and keep at it, you will be just fine.

And you shouldn't let yourself be held back. I got dentures when I was 25, and I haven't had any problems with relationships! In fact I saw a young guy post a thread on a different website asking for general opinions from women, wanting to know if they would be put off by him having dentures. All the responses said that no, they wouldn't care. If they really liked someone, then that's more important. :)

Hang in there!
