Feeling very scared and depressed!

I am 22 years old & need reasurrence about how it's going to feel getting these teeth pulled that are broken to the gumline. I have to have 3 extracted. I am so scared and very nervous about this. I do not want to be sedated! My dentist is very caring and will do one at a time. right now we are working on getting cavities filled since this is my first visit to the dentist in 14 years. I need advice! I am making progress and I am very happy about this but I'm mainly scared about these broken down teeth. I am still scared about the fillings and will probably cry at every appt and need someone to hold my hand lol but I think I can do it! Not so sure on these extractions though.... Please someone tell me how this is going to feel I know I'll be numb but will I feel or hear anything. I know she may have to cut my gum a little.. I am so scared I have got 2 cavities filled so far and 8 more to go. Anyone with similar situations please give me some advice on how to get through this!

Is there a specific reason you do not want sedation? I had 5 teeth (3 wisdom teeth and two molars, 2 of them were broken to the gumline) extracted today under sedation, I was nervous, but it went well. I had never had GA before, but the staff was very kind and it was all done in around an hour.

They gave me nitrious shortly after I sat in the chair, started the IV versed, next thing I knew I was done and in the recovery room. I understand the hesitation about sedation, I had it, but I am glad I reconsidered.

Idk I just don't like the idea of being asleep and not knowing whats going on so I rather not be sedated. Plus I think I can do it so I want to push myself through this. It's going to be hard though

Hi I had a tooth out with just being numb I hate the thought of being sedated as well, I want to be aware and capable of running if necessary

You will be really numb if you aren't sure ask the dentist to test it for you before they start. Once you are sure you are numb they will begin. They prepare the tooth, then they feel as if they are rocking from one side to the other once or twice. They do tell you not to worry about anything you might think you hear and before you know it they lift the tooth out. I didn't know mine was out until mine said to me, there it has gone. I was amazed it felt like it had only taken a minute. I sat longer waiting to go numb than it took to remove the tooth. They give you a piece of wadding to bite down on and they check the clot has formed and you are good to go.
Simples Try not to worry it won't hurt and you will be fine. I always take some pain meds before I thaw out just to be sure I have no after pain. I only took one lot I didn't need it after that. My jaw felt a bit sore but I have TMJ and I was a bit stiff the day after but once you start rinsing with the salt water it helps a lot to soothe your mouth.

Do not worry about the extractions in the slightest.

I was in the same boat as you before I had my wisdom teeth out, incredibly anxious and thought it would be a long complicated procedure.

In truth it's incredibly quick and painless, the Dentist will inject you first, if it's just one at a time then you'll probably have two injections. If you are concerned about injections then ask for a topical numbing, this is spread onto your gums and numbs the area so you don't feel the injection at all. Even without it if you have a good Dentist like it sounds you do then you shouldn't feel anymore than a little sting, less painful than a papercut.

Believe it not broken teeth are actually easier to extract as there's less obstruction, if it's very buried then the Dentist will just use like a lever to pull them up then remove the tooth - no pain.

If their not that buried then he'll just use forceps and grip the tooth, he'll move the tooth from side to side to anchor it out, you'll get a sound in your head similar to that of treading on wet snow but it's completely painless - just a weird feeling.

I had two out at once and both took all of a minute each, it's a very easy and painless procedure.

Don't worry you'll be absolutely fine, fillings are the same, uncomfortable but not painful in the least.

That's no problem, glad to help.

It's completely normal to be nervous, especially when your not used to treatment. It was the same for me only seven months ago.

In reality though your imagination of how bad the treatment will be is completely blown out of proportion, Dental treatment nowadays is completely painless. Slightly uncomfortable at times as I said, but painless.

I guarantee you'll go into the Dentist as I did with your heart pumping at a gazillion beats per minute, shaky hands and all (dreading the imminent pain that you'll experience - even though I've told you there is none). Then you'll come out about 25-30 mins later and laugh at yourself for getting so worked up over nothing, I know I did.
