To keep this as simple as i can, I'll just state the facts.
Got an exam done for the first time in over 5 years (the exact amount of years is unknown, as I was a child and trusted my parents to keep that information). (Thursday)
Was told I had some deep cavities, three that were a concern, but 11 cavities in total (I have shit oral hygiene, something that is getting better). Was shown my x-rays so I could see the existent of the damage.
Came in next day (Friday) to have my left side worked on. Three top molars, including the last, second to last, third to last (I apologize for not knowing the exact numbers) and my canine. Two of the three worst ones were filled in this sitting.
Came in (Saturday) to have right top side done. Same teeth, just opposite side. But, instead of only one tooth being bad, two ended up been deep. Doctor DID inform me on Friday that he wouldn't know the existent of the damage until he was already in there and told me to prepare for a possible root canal. After the filling was done, I asked how it went. He said they were extremely deep, but he didn't see any of my nerve, so it went as well as he had hoped. He used a medicine of sorts (as he called it at least) between the filling and the bottom near the nerve to help soothe the nerve. Also, all fillings are white composite fillings that were cured with a light.
It has been two weeks and a day, and I am having some trouble with one tooth. It hurts to eat on and is sensitive to extreme cold. Hot and warm do nothing (actually, warm/hot water seems to soothe any ache I have.) This is my second to last top molar on my right side, one of the worst fillings. My pains are usually a 2 or 3 on a scale of 10. It only hits a 4 or so when I try to drink frigid water. It doesn't hurt when hit with something (a percussion test, I guess), it doesn't keep me up at night or wake me up at night (although my nerves and dental nightmares have), and usually goes away within 10 minutes of taking Bayer aspirin. I DO grind my teeth pretty heavily and have ground (grinded?) Through three mouth guards in 8 years. Right now I am using an over the counter rubber one, because spending $300-$500 every time I grind through one is eating through my wallet. I do have a tendency to grind and clinch my teeth even while awake. It does not hurt when wearing my retainer (it actually feels better, so I've been using my retainer as a sort of security blanket) and doesn't hurt when I floss or brush my teeth (flossing also feels kind of good, haha)
I am having no gum pains, no swelling, and no odd or gross tastes in my mouth. The pain is usually dull, like I'm poking at a bruise, but there have been a handful of times where it feels like someone is pinching my tooth (if that makes sense ) it's not a sharp, needle prick like pain, just a pinch, and only happens rarely.
Hopefully I gave all the information you need. My question now is, does this sound like a dying nerve, or because it was a deep, composite, molar filling, is two weeks just not enough healing time? I do plan on calling my dentist tomorrow to see what he says, as I would rather catch anything in advance, before it gets too far, but I figured I'd ask here first since he's not open today. My mouth DID have to heal 8 fillings all at once, so I'm wondering if maybe it's just working too much to heal everything and taking a bit longer on this one.
