Might be a long story. Last bank holiday Monday I started getting a lingering twinge from lower jaw. I gave three molar teeth in a row which have fairly recent composite fillings in. I stupidly put orajel on the gum which led to top layer of gum tissue shedding.

Niggly pain came and went. A week later started with a tooth throbbing on and off. Also sensitive to hot liquids. Also noticed that right jaw was clicking and bump near ear.

Phoned dentist and have appointment next Friday. No pain at nights yet but paracetamol not working and can't take nsaids due to allergy. All fillings in place although gum appears low on couple of teeth. No root exposure i think. Have rubbed sensodyne rapid relief on sore but which relieves somes of pain.

Anyone have any idea what it might be? Or experience of remedies which work? Olive oil helping a little.

It could be a lot of things, TMJ, or maybe an infection that needs some antibiotics to clear up, or, well, anything. Only your dentist can tell you for sure. I would suggest maybe going easy on your jaw until your appointment, no chewing overcooked steak or anything like that. If you clench your teeth, try not to. And don't poke too much at the site(s), that can make irritation worse.

Good luck :)

Phoned my dentist today and managed to get an emergency appointment after explaining that i had a fever.

Turns out a tiny part had broken off the edge of a filling and caused a large abcess. Hot antibiotics. No charge so very happy after all the worry.
