Hello, new here, and tomorrows my big day, getting all 28 teeth pulled and dentures put in the same day..I'm excited to finally after years of bad teeth and countless sleepless nights in pain from toothaches to get this done, but yet I'm terrified about going tomorrow.Any advice or what to expect will be greatly appreciated!!

I am in your boat in the manner that I know what sleepless nights and dealing with dental problems for years is like. I don't need the work you are getting so far, but I just wanted to wish you luck and tomorrow if you are freaked out remember that there are lots of other people out there like you, and some on this board even thinking of you and wishing you well!

I figure if people like us can take on years of pain and sleepless nights, we must have the strength in there to get in to the dentist. :) Good luck to you.

Thanks for the reply.I just keep telling myself this time tomorrow it will be over and no more toothaches and sleepless nights over this..Will try to give a update after I get home tomorrow.

Good for you because honestly its so true and I think telling yourself that will help calm you. No matter how uncomfortable or nervous you are, the clock will keep ticking and you will be here at this time tomorrow, with it over.

Please update and good luck !

Hi Elvis!
I had the same thing done on Sept 24th (don't think I'll ever forget the date), I was awake, they gave me a valium to take an hour prior, it helped with the nerves. I had spent half my life at the dentist but in the last 7 years I had no dental insurance so I quit going, eventually my teeth were breaking off at the gum (fortunately all the back ones and only one on the bottom) so I too was SO EXCITED and daydreamed about how awesome my smile would be. I was nervous about being 49 and having full dentures, lucky for me I've been dating the same man for ten years so he was happy for me.
Here I am a little over 4 weeks, just starting to be able to eat chewable foods but I have to say, all I have to do is look at the mirror and smile and it is all worthi it! And these are just temps!!
I won't lie, the absolute worse part is the shots (if you are awake like I was) there are alot of them and mostly they numb immediately but there are those places that are going to be hard for shots no matter what,,, but it is over quickly. It took about 2 hours for me, they shaved alot of my bone so I guess that took alot of the time, the actual pulling was not so bad.
I hurt when I left, it bleeds alot, but my dentist had me take one vicodin and 8 (yes 8) ibuprofen (200mg tablets) every 4 hours and I felt pretty good.
I will say the 3rd & 4th day were the worse but not horrible.
I still have some pain, but nothing bad, after the first week i didn't take the vicodin any longer.
My best advice is not too be disappointed when you have to eat soup, yogart, etc for the first 2 weeks. (lost 8 lbs, whoo hoo) Just be patient and keep looking at your smile!
Please let me know how it goes!! Hugs to you!!

Hi Elvis! If you can't sleep..go read my journal. I had all my teeth pulled July 7th and got immediate upper and lower dentures. Detailed it all in my journal.
It's not as bad as you probably imagine. (We always think the worst..it's human nature.) Best part..you'll finally be able to SMILE in public again! That makes it all worth it!
Good luck!!

Good luck tomorrow! You are so brave to do all this! We are all here...with the same thoughts and goals. I can't wait to see how it goes. :)

Good luck man, I feel for you but hopefully it will all be good and worth it!

Thanks everyone for your replies! Today is here, its 7:30 am and I'm as nervous as can be.My appointments not until 2:30 so I got 7 hours of waiting to go through...Will try to give a update tonight on how it went if I'm not in a lot of pain...

You shouldn't have much pain. I was worried about that to..but hardly had any discomfort at all. You'll still be numb for a while after you go home.

Well,I made it through!! Sorry I didn't update last night but I wasn't feeling to good after having that done..The whole procedure with seating of dentures was only a hour and a half tops..There was a lot of bleeding and the noise from the teeth breaking and cracking was rough, but all worth it,I now can smile again! Have a follow with dentist today at 11am will give more updates..Thanks for all your replies.. :)

Well its been four whole days since I took the walk of death down the dentist's hallway,(just kidding it wasn't that bad)..All pain is pretty much gone except a couple sore spots from dentures but I still have a lot of swelling in my lips for some reason.;D

Hello people, i also had all my teeth removed on the 28th of oct and dentures put it, however things are not going so good for me, i have big sore spots on the upper denture as it is very tight, but the worse one is the bottom one as it is that tight i am unable to remove it, also the dentist tryed yesterday and was not successfull, i have to go back now and have the area numbed and denture forced out which im not looking forward too, as the area is still very sore and smells also as ive not been able to clean it very well, does anyone know if they will be able to adjust this amount as i don't want to walk around with no teeth and i start my new job in a week! any reply would be great thanks.

HI P,
You may try posting on a post of your own to get more response, but I know what you mean, it is probably bone fragments working their way out, and the denture just pushes against them and they hurt even more. Once they work their way out it get better. I hope your dentist is able to help you, keep us updated :)

Elvis, I'm amazed! I can't believe after 4 days you are almost pain free, I'm at 5 weeks now and still struggling to chew without having pain afterward :(.. Great for you though!!!
Tina
