Hi Elvis!
I had the same thing done on Sept 24th (don't think I'll ever forget the date), I was awake, they gave me a valium to take an hour prior, it helped with the nerves. I had spent half my life at the dentist but in the last 7 years I had no dental insurance so I quit going, eventually my teeth were breaking off at the gum (fortunately all the back ones and only one on the bottom) so I too was SO EXCITED and daydreamed about how awesome my smile would be. I was nervous about being 49 and having full dentures, lucky for me I've been dating the same man for ten years so he was happy for me.
Here I am a little over 4 weeks, just starting to be able to eat chewable foods but I have to say, all I have to do is look at the mirror and smile and it is all worthi it! And these are just temps!!
I won't lie, the absolute worse part is the shots (if you are awake like I was) there are alot of them and mostly they numb immediately but there are those places that are going to be hard for shots no matter what,,, but it is over quickly. It took about 2 hours for me, they shaved alot of my bone so I guess that took alot of the time, the actual pulling was not so bad.
I hurt when I left, it bleeds alot, but my dentist had me take one vicodin and 8 (yes 8) ibuprofen (200mg tablets) every 4 hours and I felt pretty good.
I will say the 3rd & 4th day were the worse but not horrible.
I still have some pain, but nothing bad, after the first week i didn't take the vicodin any longer.
My best advice is not too be disappointed when you have to eat soup, yogart, etc for the first 2 weeks. (lost 8 lbs, whoo hoo) Just be patient and keep looking at your smile!
Please let me know how it goes!! Hugs to you!!
