I never really took care of my teeth as a kid or adult and never went to the dentist until I had a toothache. I have anxiety when it comes to the dentist. Recently I started getting infections and toothaches and would have to find dentists that would do same day extractions so finally I asked if they would do dentures, the dentist said yes without hesitation. I still needed some things taken care of before extractions that he skipped. 1/6/26 I had all my teeth extracted and got immediate dentures, I was supposed to leave them in for 24 hours but the bottoms were rubbing my tongue and digging into my gums so I took them out after about 13 hours. I ended up taking the top out too because everytime I talked I felt like I was going to puke. Now 6 days later I still haven't really eaten anything because everything tastes weird or the texture is weird and I can't chew
also I have lost my appetite. Has this happened to anyone else? What did you eat? How long did it take for you to heal? When did you start talking a little better without a bad lisp? I had a lisp before extractions but it has definitely gotten worse with no teeth. I just need reassurance and I need to know im not the only one facing these problems and that theres a light at the end of the tunnel. Right now im definitely regretting this but in the end I know it will be worth it because my teeth were bad.
to DFC. You took such a huge and courageous step with all this work. It is a a huge change and any change like this definately takes getting used to. I probably would have driven me nuts to have the dentures digging into my gums.. I didn't have a full denture but once a dentist made a partial valplast and it was digging in and I just could not handle it. I do know people who have full upper and lower and they have gotten used to eating, it has taken some time, but they got used to it. There are also success stories here. I do know when I got my partial it really was worth it because my teeth were bad and the denture made me feel way more confident in public. and eventually got used to eating with them.
