Getting 19 extractions to get immediate dentures

I'm scheduled to get 19 teeth pulled to then get immediate dentures on Friday. My biggest concern is recovery time. I work in a call center but I won't have to talk (I'm scheduled to work chat so I'll just be typing) for the first couple of days. Will I be able to return to work by Monday?

@smilepretty2 I had 14 extractions for immediate dentures and seriously felt very little pain afterwards. They will give you some sort of pain med and I would suggest you stay on top of that. I even set an alarm to wake up to take it. You just want to stay ahead of the pain. I would think you should be able to work on Monday. Three of mine were surgical extractions and I also had a aveloplasty (spelling?)which required stitches. If you have any other questions let me know. What kind of anesthesia will you have. I had local only.

Thanks so much for replying! I am so nervous. I am getting local anesthesia and nitrous oxide so hopefully I will be okay. I was just worried about returning to work on Monday so thanks again. I've put this off for too long not to mention I had to save up for it because dental insurance is crap!

You'll probably be fine for work, just follow the instructions from your dentist carefully. Don't smoke for at least 24hrs

Expect to spend some time learning to speak clearly with the denture in situ, (reading out loud from a book is a good way to practice) also expect several return visits to the dentist to get them adjusted, don't be disappointed when this happens, it's totally normal.

Expect to feel like you're making more saliva than usual and have to swallow more frequently, this is basically because your brain thinks you're eating something with the denture in place, so produces extra saliva to help swallowing, this should pass in 2 or 3 days though.

Watch out for hot drinks and food for a day or two, the roof of your mouth will be "armour plated" by the denture, the soft bits at the back aren't so can be a bit ouchy if you burn them.

@Gordon thanks! I was worried about how I will talk or speak afterwards. I generally talk on the phone for work unless I'm in chat so I'll definitely have to practice. I'm going to try reading out loud in a book like you suggested. Thanks again!!

@smilepretty2 My dentures were very painful at first and when I put them in, I could hardly get them in. This is a good thing because they will be a tight fit. But don't expect to feel comfort. If you are tough, you can probably work but you might want to just stay at home for a while.

Please let us know how everything goes on Friday. You got this. Another thing I wanted to add was that I kept my eyes closed the entire procedure while listening to music. If I didn’t see what was coming I felt more in control.
