I have just had confirmation of surgery to get upper teeth removed and an immediate denture. I am 30. I am so anxious about my teeth that I haven't told anyone what I am doing as I'm so embarrassed.
how painful is it after extraction ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you

Pain level depends on your pain tolerance. For my extractions(a total of 14 teeth and got upper and lower partials), i didn't have a ton of pain afterwards. Some people have more pain, some people have less.

Advice? I have three big tips. First off is invest in some baby food(be it jars, squeeze pouches, and/or plastic containers) since those are easy food items to get into your system when you need just a little something. It doesn't have to be your only food but it's useful.

Second tip sounds stupid but speaking from first hand experience, it's a critical tip. If there's a fast food meal that could be limited time or a place you love to eat at , eat there b4 hand b/c if the meal or place goes bye bye b4 you are ready to test out your new uppers, then you won't be kicking yourself.

there used to be a Grilled loaded 5 buck box at taco bell that i loved to get. Heck, i even got my mom and uncle to stop there after my first round of extractions so they could get me one that we could chop up for me to eat! Guess what happened when i was finally moving back onto solids that weren't noodles and hot dog chunks and wanted a box? Yup. Box went bye bye. there's been other boxes since then but they keep changing what it is and i hate when they do 2 tacos and a main since those aren't filling at all.

Then there was a pizza place a couple cities over that i loved to eat at when i was giving the choice. I ate like a piggy there a few days b4 the deep cleaning. Guess what happened down the line? Yup. Place went bye bye. :(

Third tip is another stupid but helpful tip. Make sure you mentally prepare yourself for your new smile. I didn't and i think that's part of the reason i hate my new mouth so much. Most people in my shoes would probably be walking around showing off their new smile but not me. My partials have mostly been living in the container lately. Wore them 5 times in january, about 4 times in febuary, and my second wear of march will be today or tomorrow.

i have a photo of my mouth with partials in from july in my journal(page 8, last post) but it's an outdated one. The uppers now have one of the wires going around a canine and the lower teeth(where the molars would be) have been shaved and adjusted at least 3 tmes now and are looking a bit bad.

Thank you heaps for your advice. I have a baby so baby food is a great idea. I love in a small towntown,, small country so we have limited fast food places but I may just indulge in some McDonald's the day before. How can I view your pics? Sorry I'm new to this site. Thank you heaps :)

You can check out my journal by going to the journal forum and I have a thread there. Page 1, image 2 is b4 and page 8, last image is after from July. Journal has a bunch of entries from me ranting and my journey and stuff. Pretty much all ive been using it for lately is arguing with myself if I should go in for a cleaning or not(can't lie. I don't even care anymore) and keeping track of the last time I wore the things, an event that's been relabeled as "torture day". Tomorrow would mark day 8 since last wear so its t-day tomrrow.
