I’ve never posted on here I’m new just found this site. I have an extraction coming up a molar tooth number 15.. I have such a phobia.. I was hoping for som experiences some reassurance. I’ve heard with numbing you don’t feel it and it goes fast.. anyone else have to go through this

Hi @Colleenadele! Have you had your extraction yet? If so, how did it go?

In case you haven't, what you've heard is correct - with numbing, you don't feel pain, although you may feel some pressure. The time it takes depends on a few things, such as the size and shape of the roots, the thickness and density of the jaw bone and the skill and experience of the dentist. So the best person to ask about how long it will take would be your dentist who has actually seen the tooth in question!

We have a section with personal stories on this website, and I'm pretty sure that some of them will cover extractions. You can find them here:

Wishing you all the best!!

Hello actually I go Wednesday so I’m nervous and thank you for the information

Best of luck for Wednesday then 🤗 ! Please let us know how it went 🙂

I wish I wasn’t so afraid

@Colleenadele if you haven’t had it done yet I just wanted to tell you that I have the biggest phobia of dentist more than anyone any dentist I’ve gone to has seen. To the point I’m running out of teeth because the only thing that isn’t so bad and I can semi handle is extractions! You won’t feel a thing with that and it’s so quick it never takes long at all. They always give me something before so I’m way chill when I get there. Call yours if they didn’t give you anything to take and explain your phobia and they probably would call you in something. The worst part is the eating/not being able to eat much after and the healing. I wish you the best if you have any questions feel free to ask me. Good luck!

thank you.. I go Wednesday so I won’t be enjoying much food on Thanksgiving.. He called in something I hope it works.. I’m was glad to read your response it does calm my nerves to hear other peoples experiences especially when I hear you don’t feel it and it’s quick.. I will have to get on and tell how it went in hopes it will help others to calm the nerves like you did mine Thank You

Hello, Its been 2 weeks almost since the extraction and I’m happy to say it went like everyone said.. I did get something to take that my dentist called in to calm me. He was fast and gentle on the shots I barely felt it when he went in to grab the tooth I felt nothing I heard a sound and felt the pressure but no pain and it was out in what seemed like seconds. And it’s healing nicely.
