Tomorrow I have an appointment at noon to have my back molar extracted.
I was told in JANUARY 2023 that I would need a root canal. I put it off and even set 3 appointments and was sitting in the chair and bailed each time. After 3 rounds of antibiotics this year, it’s past the point of no return and it needs to be extracted.
I found a local extraction specialist who comes highly rated and will use midazolam (versed) as iv sedation. I am terrified but I am committing this time.
Here are my fears:
What will I feel like with the sedation? Im afraid of being out of control, loopy, saying stupid things, panicking but not being able to do anything etc.
My other big fear is DRY SOCKET
I’m taking every precaution but I’m still scared I’ll like suck the blood clot out in my sleep or something.
I’ve been through every emotion this year regarding dental stuff. Panic, anxiety, depression, shame and even heavy and dark thoughts about rather being dead than going to the dentist. I feel like I let my wife down multiple times. She has been so supportive but also I can tell she doesn’t really understand and gets frustrated when I bail on these appointments then complain about the pain I’m in!
Letting her down is probably the hardest part of all of this.
Any way, after my appointment my dad will drive me to his house where I’ll stay a couple days for the initial healing period. I have a toddler at home who will want me to play and wrestle and I don’t want to risk dry socket from strenuous movements.
I’ll check back tomorrow after the procedure and give an update!
Also @Gordon when am I truly in the clear for dry socket?
Thanks for helping me get the courage to go through with it everyone!
