hi all im a newbie i havent been tothe dentist for treament for 8 yrs

previous to that had iv sedation for 2 extractions and a load of fillings

problem being all those fillings have now become just roots with gum growing over

im so ver paranoid and worried about it all

i saw a dentist 6 weeks ago as i had two abcesses

which i now belive are back he ahe told me there was no hope and that i would have to go to hospital and have a G A something that scares me even more

i belive to my knowledge from looking in the mirror that i need at least 10 extractions 5 are gum level and one has the gum grown over

i feel so lost and desperate im a student so cant really afford to pay out private for sedation and no where locally seems to do it on the nhs and so the only option there is to go to the hospital

i expect i wouldbe happy to pay private and just have an affordable amount done each time but the only private dentist i havefoundin hants charges 200 pound for the sedation alone

its make me depressed and low i some times think it would be easier to be dead

i feel that i have the worst teeth on record i feel that they are actually killing me and making me ill

but also feel that even if i get them out one at a time its better then just suffering as i am

please someone help me

advise needed guidience and reasurence would be greatfully recieved

i live in winchester hants for any locals that can assist :-? :-?

Re: hi newbie here vary broken bad teeth and worri

do you have medical insurance? if you have to be hospitalized they will most likely pay. call your local dental schools. they offer prices 1/3 of a typical office.
Do not talk about dyeing. your life is worth it. just read many posts here. many people have real bad teeth. I barely been to the dentist since the 80's and if i can do it you can too. you also may want to get a second opinion.
if your job does not have insurance you may want to look into getting a job that has the benefit and just keep the job long enough for you to get your dental needs done.
I know your scared but once you get the job done you will feel like a million bucks.
also all cities have free clinics check and see if there are a dental clinic. if they cant do the work they may be aboe to refer you to a dentist that will work for you andset up a payment plan. Some dentists charge you based on your ability to pay on a sliding scale.

Hi Jake :welcome:

please don't give up!

There may well be other options, for example the community dental service. I couldn't find out much about the community dental service in Hampshire on the web (other than they appear to accept self-referrals); however, both your local Citizen's Advice Bureau and your PCT/NHS helpline would be able to provide you with more information as well as contact details.

The community dental service in most areas of the UK (though not all) caters to people with severe dental fears as well as those with disabilities.

This way, you may be able to get IV sedation on the NHS.

The downside is that in some areas, waiting times can be long. But it's definitely worth checking it out!

I don't know if you've explored this option already? If so, what information did you get?

Another option is to ring around (or visit the practices of) other private dentists who offer IV sedation and see how much they charge, then try and contact any who are "affordable" and see if they might be right for you. There are a few tips on this page which might help:

Maybe looking a bit further afield might help as well (easier if you have a car, but some places might be relatively easy to access using public transport).

If you need any help or just need to talk, please don't hesitate to post - that's what the board is here for :).

Wishing you the best of luck :grouphug:
