This may sound like a very bizarre fear, but I'm terrified that my oral surgeon will accidentally try to pull my implant out.
I'm having all of my top teeth removed soon, but have an implant already and don't want the surgeon to just go merrily along from tooth to tooth and yank on that one too! I don't want to insult him by even suggesting such a thing, but it really scares me (I'll be sedated, so won't even know if this is happening). I'm hoping to find out how teeth with crowns are removed, because if they remove the crown first, it will be obvious that there's an implant underneath and I won't have to worry about this at all. I also have a crown on one of the other teeth that will be removed, but that one sits on a natural tooth root, so it isn't a problem.
So, how are teeth with crowns dealt with during an extraction? Does the dentist take hold of the crown itself and pull both the crown and the tooth out together (or crown and implant!), or is the crown removed first and then the rest taken out separately?
If the crown is removed first, I can breathe more easily, and perhaps sleep at night for the next few weeks, which would be really great.
Thanks for any information that can be provided.
