I had 8 teeth pulled and 6 implants placed on April 14th. Due to severe swelling that day of surgery they couldn't put my dentures in. Then on my follow up appointment a week later, I forgot to bring them and the gums were still very swollen. They waited another 10 days and I went to have them put in, but I have two bones in my gums that are protruding and he wants to shave them down so the dentures fit better. I was suppose to go yesterday but was sick. Now I have to wait until June 9th. Is it bad to go that long without anything protecting the implants/gums? I am healing nicely according to them.. I just don't want this to take longer then it should.

Hi,
To some degree you are right, dentures can protect the gum tissue but that is not that important, the implants are very well protected and the gums will heal perfectly fine. The most important factor is your own comfort and quality of life during this transitional period.

Thank you.... Today for the first time ever I have a little pain in the gum where it is growing over the implant. Is that normal? I may have jabbed it with something I ate too. It isn't bad. I leave for vacation on monday so I want to make sure it is ok.

I have pretty much gotten over my lack of teeth up top. My friends know me and know what I am going through. And I could care less what others think. That was one of my biggest fears going into all of this... I should hopefully have the dentures in place in 2 weeks..
