Hi
Today I had 2 deep fillings done my dentist is amazing with me and I’m so grateful to have him. I seem to burn local anesthetic off fast my appointment was 40 minutes he gave me lots of the anesthetic I didn’t feel a thing when he gave it and didn’t believe he had done it till my face went numb ! I walked out the dentist numb but I wasn’t numb for the 2-3 hours they said I was completely normal and not numb at all about ten minutes after leaving so less than an hour ? Is that normal ? I had the same issue when I had an extraction it didnt even last 40 minutes and it’s worried me slightly that it doesn’t seem to last on me ? Do some people need topping up during the appointment ? I have another filing next week this one is a replacement as that one is failing so won’t take as long as today but it’s making me nervous it wears off on me so fast ?
Should add I was the absolute worst dental phobic I actually passed out once but I’m getting better at it with the right dentist I do shake like crazy my body seems to think we are headed to the electric chair not the dentist so maybe adrenaline could effect it ?
Thankyou
Emma

Different people metabolise different drugs at different rates. I also don't know which local you had or how much so it's kind of hard to comment :-)

You're right that adrenaline can affect it, faster pulse and higher BP will flush the local away from the tissues more quickly, which is one of the reasons local works "better" on sedated patients.
