I am so depressed after my year of dental hell

Thanks Gordon.... will have a word with my dentist...

I HAVE ENOUGH I JUST CAN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE.....since the new bridge bridge I have had the bridge ground down to the metal, I have been fobbed off with the need of a night guard I have changed dentists and had the good bridge on the other side ground down due to the fact the new bridge side was now lower than my other side....I have been drinking more, smoking more, constantly had a cloud had hanging over my head but still followed the dentist's advice. Now I am unable to eat on either side of my mouth due to the pain and now cold sensitivity in the back tooth of what was my good side and pain in another tooth due to the rubbing on lower teeth of my what was good bridge.

PLEASE tell me what would you say to the new dentist if this was you I just want my teeth to feel normal again and to get on with my life...I don't want to keep getting fobbed off with excuses any more nor do I want to lose my teeth when the now dentist says there aim is PREVENTION PREVENTION PREVENTION, *:'(*:'(*:'(

I just want to enjoy Christmas and start the new year with teeth that feel right and put all this behind me PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME !!!!

i don't really know how to help you or what you can say to your dentist but i do know that when you have an issue with your bite (as i've definitely had) it is terrible and you feel like it will never be normal again. i was constanly focusing on how my teeth came together (or didn't!!) and got really depressed about it. my issues were also caused by bad dental treatment so i understand that too.

i think, unfortunately, that it will be quite difficult for you to truly get this problem sorted out on the nhs. my experience has been that correcting a bite problem takes lots of time, study models of your teeth must be taken, and small adjustments made until it gets 'just right'. any dentist who doesn't take the time to do this might make your bite even worse and have to go shaving bits of teeth and crowns all over the place!!

the treatment i had consisted in (something like this anyway, i can't completely remember all the details):
step 1: full night guard to relax the jaw and so dentist could see where i was biting/grinding etc
step 2: study models made of my teeth
step 3: adjustments made on study models to check accuracy
step 4: adjustments made on my teeth (although i didn't get to this stage becasue i decided to have braces instead!!)

braces are another option, although they might not be suitable in your case, i don't know.

anyway, all of this treatment is expensive, and that's what happens too much for my liking: NHS dentists mess our teeth up and then we have to pay £££ to correct their mistakes...

sorry i can't be of more help but, if you find the right dentist, i'm pretty sure you'll get there in the end!

Thanks Olanda however private is not an option I have epilepsy amongst things so am unable to work so am on a fixed income....but you are right about how I feel I am so scared things will never be right again..this is making me so ill.......

Can anyone else offer any help *:'(*:'(*:'(

Oh and I forgot to mention the TMJ symptoms the aching and the cracking jaw......

xxxx:-?

Thanks Sarah...,I cried myself to sleep last night and am just about keeping it together....I can't believe a dentist can muck some ones mouth up so much. Before that bridge I had no problems apart from the extraction last year....Due to my dentist pushing so hard putting my posted crown back in that he cracked the root.....

I feel that I can't push this new dentist too much as they did not cause the original problem. Not sure if I can go to Guys living in Norfolk but would be willing too. Perhaps GORDON can help on this.

Still don't know what to say to my dentist, I don't want to leave it till Jan 25th.....................

Hi sue, Gordon is in Scotland so the system might be slightly different there (don't know for sure though).
I was wondering if they had a NHS/PCT dental helpline in Norfolk like they have for some regions. On the NHS site for Norfolk, they seem to be giving the British Dental Health Foundation's number though, rather than an NHS-specific one. I'm not sure to what extent the Dental Health Foundation provides this type of specific advice.

I'm wondering if it might be worth giving PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) a call - their number is 0800 587 4132.

I hope they will be able to give you the advice you need!

Best of luck :XXLhug:

Thanks I will see what I can find out......

Was going to wait till after Christmas to ring the number recomended, not sure what to say though, I am so scared. On top of everything all the teeth under old bridge are reacting to cold drinks and food now, despite being promised that the bridge was on no accounts at risk.....................

Would you feel more comfortable emailing them (you can find the Norfolk PALS email address above)? You can find more information about what the Patient Advice and Liaison service actually does here:

[out-of-date link removed]

Basically they are there to listen to your concerns and help you get the help you would like :).

Hi there.....well not sure if I spelled things right...I just poured my heart out to a certain degree and e-mail sent xx

Have heards from PALS they are waiting for the dental specialist to get back to them.....

Now to top it all on top of the tenderness in teeth on old bridge the ruddy thing is coming loose.....Can't get an appontment till WED but that fits in with an appointment My husband has later in the day with the Hygenist.....

Still not sure what to say when I go ....just hope PALS get back to me before then.

I am not sure i want the bridge cemented in perm...just incase that needs to be replaced, is it ok to use the temp stuff till all this is sorted. Plus was thinking of getting temp from chemist untill WED just in case it falls out is that ok...

Just use denture fixative to stick in the old bridge, the paste stuff should work nicely but still let the dentist clean it up to stick the bridge in properly.
